Three representatives from @EnglandRugby attended the @worldRugby transgender workshop in February. Eight months later their response is "We will assess the current evidence alongside safety concerns that have been raised" /1
They want to see "more scientific evidence". Why do they think the evidence-base it's not enough when experts at @WorldRugby clearly do?
Ironically very little scientific evidence was needed to introduce trans inclusion rules in sport. It's only now they are calling for more /2
"The RFU is committed to LGBTQ+ inclusion"
Nice buzzwords but what about female inclusion? The purpose of the female sex category in sport is to enable inclusion... of women and girls. /3
Sport must be inclusive of everyone, but the sports categories can't be. The category for the female sex showcases the very best of what the *female body* can do. /4
It is simply wrong to expect female teams to become more inclusive of the opposite sex.
Rather it's the male teams that need to become more inclusive of different gender identities. /5
Opening the female sex category is not the only option. There are so many other ways to promote inclusion that have been left unexplored by @EnglandRugby . /6
Inclusion can never be solved by including one group at the expense of another or ignoring the performance differences between two different groups. /7
@WorldRugby has rightly put the safety of its professional female players first. If @EnglandRugby don’t do the same then thousands of amateur players will be left asking why they don’t deserve the same protections. /8
If you play Rugby and want to help us challenge @EnglandRugby over this dangerous and discriminatory policy position please get in touch now. /9
If you are frustrated with how @EnglandRugby and other sports are treating women and girls please support our campaign to help us fight for change. /10
The @EnglandRugby trans policy is not going to change despite the @WorldRugby recommendations that existing policies are not fit for purpose. Let's take a look at the @EnglandRugby policy /1
Up front on the first page all the advocacy and advice groups get a mention. Stonewall, Mermaids, Gendered Intelligence, GIRES and even NHS GIDS. /2
Males who identify as women are referred to as "transgender female players". All they need to show is a doctors note saying they've kept their testosterone low.
Peer reviewed studies show that lowering T for 12 months in adulthood has little impact on muscle size and strength/3
The British junior male record for cycling 25 miles is currently held by Zach Bridges. A prestigious title once held by Chris Boardman back at the start of his cycling career. /1
No one should be forced to use a facility they don't feel comfortable using. Otherwise people end up being excluded. /1
Some women don't feel comfortable or safe sharing facilities with the opposite sex. They must not be forced to. They need to be able to choose a female-only option instead /2
Some trans people don't feel comfortable or safe sharing facilities designated for their birth sex. They must not be forced to. They need to be able to choose a mix-sex option instead /3
Thread: The ideological debate over whether ‘transwomen are women’ is never a useful starting point for policy makers when it comes to deciding what to do about their female-only spaces and services. /1
Society’s growing awareness and tolerance of an individuals right to self-express their own gender identity is welcome, but it cannot simply be extrapolated into all policy areas. /2
Not when the reason for a women-only policy is *because* of differences between the male and female sex. This is particularly true in sports policy making. /3
