I didn’t mean a Big SURPRISE in creating the character (@daleeaglesham came up with her gorgeous design.
But it did irk me that there were so few gay women characters in the mainstream superhero books of the time.
She was supposed to be short and a little stocky, and Brazilian.
Which was frustrating, because I knew there were a LOT of lgbtq readers of comics. Whole communities.
So I wanted a lesbian character where there was no ambiguity about it, and who had zero regrets, and also a team that supported her.
I loved writing her. I don’t usually write a lot of romance in my superhero books, but Scandal and her girlfriends (eventually wives), were a constant joy, even in dark stories.
They are the hope aspect in the book.
Why do I like her so much?
She is a great action figure.
A perfect Lego.
She’s the best girlfriend.
Cosplayers love her.
She’s the best daughter.
Also, she has a very sensible opinion regarding redheads.
When I knew we had done something special first occurred during a crossover with the Birds of Prey.
We had Scandal dancing with her girlfriend, and Scandal was wearing a tux.
WE GOT SO MUCH MAIL.
:)
I can’t find a photo of it at the moment but...
...it turns out that Scandal in a tuxedo doing a waltz is a LOT of girls’ exact THING.
We got such a steamy response to those few panels...that later, same story, we found out the OTHER saucytime image for a lot of women is...
Scandal in a RUINED tuxedo.
:)
It probably doesn’t hurt that @NicolaScottArt did the art. :)
We got such a response, warms my heart to this day.
I love the character, she has layers.
When we were ending the series, she had taken up with a lookalike of her previous girlfriend, who had died.
When that girlfriend came BACK, it looked like a classic heartbreak triad story. Who would she choose?
And Scandal said FUCK THAT.
Of all the Six, I miss her the most.
This has been a SCANDAL SAVAGE Stan thread. Thank you!
Ps. SEVERAL women have told me that Scandal helped them come out, which I am delighted about.
Funny that Secret Six was supposed to be a villain book!

My friends at @TheDeckofMany, who created the astoundingly beautiful and successful #Humblewood campaign setting, have come up with a new one, a creepy, whimsical RPG setting called HECKNA.
The kickstarter is in its last 17 hours.
BUT...:)
cont.
They asked for $20k and have raised almost $600,000 already. WOW!
Here's the fun part. If they make their last stretch goal, I will write a graphic novel in their setting, drawn by a SUPERSTAR artist.
If you signed up for their fantastic #HUMBLEWOOD setting, you know the quality of the work they do. The books are like museum pieces. There's tiers for every budget.
But what really excites me is the setting. Take your D&D characters to a bizarre, surreal carnival...LOOK!
I have a weird theory that sounds incredibly goofy but might actually be significant.
It involves Bronson Pinchot.
Okay, this is a bit silly sounding. But I think it might actually also be meaningful, so bear with me (no pun intended).
If there are holes in this theory, happy to hear them. But I think I'm onto something.
It's about movies we loved as kids.
Here we go.
I think we have almost all experienced it if you have a soul at all. We've all had a move we loved as a kid or teen, that when we watch it a decade or more later, we find really cringe-inducing moments. It may be misogyny, it may be racism, transphobia is weirdly common...
Okay, so, I have been looking with avaricious eyes at the Nat20 Dice Books from @Nat20_DiceBox, they are gorgeous books that fold open to reveal a dice tray...and they went and MADE ME ONE.
