For the past 4 years, Trump has been fixated on the financial benefits he might derive from his time in office.

That money may help him pay off his $421 million in personally guaranteed debt that's coming due soon.

Here’s a look back at how he’s capitalized on the presidency:
At the 2019 G-7 Summit, Trump previewed an announcement that he would hold the 2020 G-7 at Trump National Doral resort, likely bringing millions of dollars in foreign government spending.

This scheme was shut down by widespread criticism.
The Trump Organization has billed taxpayers more than $1.2 million in Secret Service spending alone during Trump’s time in office.
When VP Pence traveled to Ireland for meetings in Dublin, he stayed almost 200 miles away, at Trump’s Doonbeg resort.

The detour cost the government nearly $600k in travel expenses. The Secret Service paid the resort more than $15k.
Trump pressured the U.S. ambassador to Britain to steer the British Open to Trump’s Turnberry resort in Scotland in 2017.

The ambassador, Woody Johnson, unsuccessfully raised the idea with Scotland’s secretary of state.
The day after T-Mobile announced its planned merger with Sprint (for which it needed approval from the Trump administration) nine T-Mobile executives checked into the Trump hotel and spent a total of $195k.

The merger was approved.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to NYC drove a spike in quarterly profits at the Trump hotel in 2018. Though the crown prince himself didn’t stay there, his entourage did.

They spent enough to put the hotel in the black.
The sad truth is that not only has Trump tried to monetize the presidency — he has succeeded.

Let's talk about the Hatch Act
The Hatch Act is one of America's most important ethics laws. It prohibits people in government from using their official position for partisan political means. It also prohibits them from using taxpayer dollars to campaign for one side or the other.
In other words, the Hatch Act is meant to keep a separation of church and state between the government and campaigns. In a free and open democracy, the government doesn't use government resources to keep itself in power.

Tomorrow, Charles Rettig, the Trump appointed IRS commissioner will be testifying before the House Committee on Oversight and Reform.

We have a few simple questions for him.
One: How can you carry out your duties impartially when you are making six-figures by renting out condos in a Trump property? That’s a major conflict of interest for the person helping Trump hide his tax returns.

Two: A tiny change buried in the middle of the CARES Act could bring the Trump Organization and Jared Kushner an unprecedented windfall.

Is the IRS investigating how much taxpayer money went to Trump and Kushner businesses? citizensforethics.org/two-tax-change…

Last night, Trump’s chief of staff told the press that no one outside of Washington cares about the Trump administration’s violations of the Hatch Act.

But if they think no one cares about the law, why is Trump running as a “law and order” president?
With Trump’s selective fixation on “law and order,” he is showing his hand: The phrase is nothing more than a racist dog whistle.

Let’s take a look at his record:
Trump’s business:

Charged with housing discrimintation, defrauding customers, tax evasion and more. It has settled more lawsuits that we can count and is currently under investigation by the Manhattan DA, and the NY AG.

When Trump tries to claim he’s the “law and order” president, you really have to wonder — has he read the news about the people involved with his 2016 campaign?
First, there was Michael Flynn, a top aide to Trump's campaign, who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia. Trump hired him as national security advisor.
nytimes.com/2020/07/30/us/…
Then there was Trump’s first campaign manager, Paul Manafort, who was sentenced to 47 months in prison for hiding millions of dollars he earned for political consulting in Ukraine.

Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf and Acting Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli were invalidly appointed to their positions and are ineligible to serve, according to a GAO report.

That raises serious legal questions. There must be accountability. politico.com/news/2020/08/1…
GAO is referring questions about the legality of Wolf and Cuccinelli’s actions to DHS’ IG, which has been remarkably dormant.

Plus the DHS IG lied about having a PhD, which raises some integrity questions... washingtonpost.com/national/homel…
No matter what the IG finds, DHS is no stranger to flouting the law.

Its multi-pronged attack on civilians at anti-racism protests could be a constitutional violation and raises serious questions about abuse of power.
