San Francisco Mayor: "while many private schools are open today, our public schools have still not yet made a firm plan to open."
"The fact that our kids aren't in school is what's driving inequity in our city [...]

Until those doors are open, the school board and the district should be focused on getting our kids back in the classroom."
We should fund students directly

If a grocery store doesn't reopen families can take their money elsewhere

If a school doesn't reopen families should similarly be able to take their children's education dollars elsewhere.

A new study finds that public school districts with stronger teachers unions are significantly less likely to reopen in person.

This is now the 2nd evaluation finding this result.
This new study also finds that private school competition increases the likelihood that public schools reopen in person.
Incentives matter. Public schools are more likely to cater to the needs of families when they have other options.

Here is the new study:

Arizona teacher: "Unfortunately for you, you need us [...] We have more power than you do. If we decide not to work, all it takes is 20% of teachers to call out and a school has to close."
This uneven power dynamic is the main problem with K-12 education

The system gets your children's education dollars regardless of how well it meets their needs

We should fund students directly and empower all families.

The enrollment dropped 14% from last year for kindergarten.

14 of the state's 15 largest school districts aren't reopening with any in-person instruction.

The public school system is leaving thousands of families out to dry

No wonder families are removing their children from that system.
