Not only are there many flaws with how poverty is measured, but even before the pandemic, there were 140 million people who were poor or living in real economic insecurity.

These 8mil ppl were always part of the 140mil poor & low-wealth, living just above the poverty line, but one emergency away from living below it.

Due to the pandemic & our government’s failures, they've fallen below the poverty line, but they were always part of the 140 million.

And now they — and the rest of the 140 million poor & low-wealth — are facing even greater crises.

We must look at those 8 million alongside the billionaires whose wealth has increased $845 billion over these past few months.

The government response to the pandemic is the cause of both of these conditions: growing poverty on one side and growing wealth on the other.
