If not talk, at least quietly reflect on and conscientiously begin to make personal lifestyle changes, no matter the degree of change. Every little helps!!
The movie begins with a quick lesson on evolution and plunges into the prevailing ill-practices around the globe that are rapidly declining the health and richness of bio-diversity.
Backed up by plenty of evidence and personal experience of the decaying planet, David's witness statement to the world shakes you back to reality.
At one point, it breaks you down (it sure broke me) leaving you thinking there is no hope!!
Reassuringly, David makes it apparent "its not all doom & gloom" if we learn how "to work with nature rather than against it".
With uplifting imagery, music and importantly awakening statistics of case studies, David illustrates the rewarding successes of some fundamental countermeasures already employed across the world.
Like,
- Japan countering population growth
- Morocco championing solar energy harnessing
- Netherlands growing food sustainably
- Palau Islands enriching their coastal seas
- Costa Rica flourishing their forests
Imagine, just imagine the consequences on a global scale. This is the kind of butterfly effect we need!
David instils the fact that it is not about saving the planet but is about saving ourselves!
"The natural world rebuilds itself" and "the wild reclaims its space", David says, as he cites the example of the forests taking over the city following the Chernobyl evacuation.
Nature always wins!
If we want to co-exist and without the threat of extinction, it is in our utmost interest "to move from being 'apart' from nature, to becoming 'a part' of nature" We owe this to ourselves and our future generations.
Paraphrasing David, Wisdom is our only saviour, not intelligence!!
A concept that we dont yet fully understand or if we do, dont live by.
David is 94 and is full of knowledge and gratitude for what he has learnt. He is one lucky (if not the luckiest) human to have evolved with the world and experienced many million miles of nature from close proximity. But he didnt stop there!
Thank you (and your team) for your hard work, zeal and perseverance in spreading the message and actively pioneering change in this world.
I only hope we learn and adapt sooner rather than later to recover from our grave mistakes.
