Having some Knob Creek tonight. Real strong kick (high proof). It's sharper than some of the stuff I usually drink these days but not in a bad way. That's its character. I like it. Would work great in an Old Fashioned.
I'm trying to build a mental rolodex of different bourbons and how they "feel." So like 1792 is heady, fruity, and clean (almost like a cognac). Elijah Craig is earthy and dark (almost like a peaty single malt). This is in between but with a tangier, less rounded character.
I'd put Angel's Envy on the 1972 side of things too. It's kinda light and clean. If you like Single Malts, think of those as like a nice Highlands (Glenmorangie), while Elijah Craig is a bit more Islay (Ardbeg). Pardon me if I'm not using proper jargon. I'm just winging it.
Also picked up some Woodford Reserve and I found a good place in town to get top shelf booze from. It had all the fancy variants of stuff that I never see anywhere and the prices were totally fine.
The Woodford is more complex than I remember but is still "midrange" in its flavor in a way that works really well for cocktails. Kinda toasted taste, maybe. A softer, "rounder" version of the same sort of thing as the Knob Creek (official terminology be damned!)
I actually have a tendency to visualize this in audio spectrum terms, so Woodford would be a wide bandwidth peak in the mid-range, whereas Elijah Craig is more bassy. Knob Creek is a narrower mid-range peak, and 1792/Angel's Envy are sparkly high frequency shelves. Audio Bourbon!

I see people doing this so I'll try to do an October horror movie recommendation thread. Don't expect everyone to enjoy all of these, obviously, but some are weirder and obscure things I liked. FYI jump scare heavy movies aren't my thing so this'll be good if you don't like them.
Oct 1: The Descent (2005)
This one isn't really obscure anymore, and that's a good thing. I recommend you watch it knowing as little as possible. I had no idea what it was about (discovered it in 2006) and the experience was better for it.
Oct 2: The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015)
This movie does something super smart I've never seen and you'll be asking yourself why no one thought to do it before this. Love when I am surprised by a movie like that. Made by Oz Perkins, the son of Anthony Perkins from Psycho.
Milbank has taken pains to avoid Nazi comparisons? I just Googled it and immediately came up with an example of him doing this from 2018. washingtonpost.com/opinions/is-it…
Dear YouTubers: The problem with your protracted begging for subscribers (the new hotness is showing you the analytics of how many viewers are subs) makes your videos neigh unwatchable if you're already subscribed.
I'm nostalgic for that era. Now it's actually a 30-60 second speech about how few viewers have subscribed.
Saw Tenet again today. Alamo Drafthouse. Saturday 3:30 pm screening - something I've done many times before. Theater was basically empty. Never seen a screening like that at Alamo. Made me sad. Theaters are fucked.
Yes Tenet is a good a second time. Helped me grasp some of the less intuitive things. I still want to watch it a couple of times at home where I can pause and have subtitles. A few small plot things still don't make sense but a second viewing cleared a lot up. Fun theater movie.
I wouldn't call this a top tier Nolan but honestly it doesn't really try to be. It's WAY less ambitious than Interstellar or Inception. He could have gone super insane visuals and absurd set pieces and he didn't. It's a convoluted story but it's surprisingly focused.
Anyone else pick up on the fact that in the #Dune trailer Paul uses the word "crusade," whereas in the book the word of choice is "jihad"?
I fully expected them to do this anyway. The term has gained a ton of political and emotional baggage since the book was written, plus it wasn't even talking about Islam in the book. The Fremen language just has a ton of Arabic words in it and probably derived from it initially.
It shouldn't annoy you, especially since the jihad in Dune is righteous, not evil. It's not like they were trying to tidy up offense. The "Arabs" are the good guys in Dune.
