On this day in 1908 @RockiesCork and @MidletonGaa clashed in the @OfficialCorkGAA County Senior Hurling Championship Final at Queenstown. There was strangely very little reporting in the Cork Examiner for such an important fixture #corkhurlinghistory
There was a large attendance present on what was a fine autumn day in East Cork. The Rockies began the brightest and quickly opened up a six point lead (1-03 to no score) and then Andy “Dooric” Buckley scores goal number two for @RockiesCork #corkhurlinghistory
The Magpies then got off the mark with their opening goal but unfortunately the reporting on the remainder of the match is extremely limited, suffice to say that @RockiesCork emerged victorious on a final score line of @RockiesCork 4-11 to 2-03 for @MidletonGaa
The match referee was Mr. Matt O’Riordan, Chairman of the @OfficialCorkGAA County Board and the victorious team captain was Tom “Honest Man” Coughlan. Please see the below short match report and lineups #corkhurlinghistory
There had been a bitter dispute within @OfficialCorkGAA that year which arose out of the decision of the @MunsterGAA Council to fix the @OfficialCorkGAA v @LimerickCLG 1908 Munster Senior Championship First-Round fixtures for Ennis #corkhurlinghistory
This was not a popular decision with a number of leading clubs and players, with many players simply unable to travel such a large distance at that time. The fall out was that the @OfficialCorkGAA County Board decided to suspend a number of leading players #corkhurlinghistory
Among them was the inspirational @DungourneyGAA captain Jim “Jamesy” Kelleher and the East Cork Club eventually withdrew from that season’s @OfficialCorkGAA County Senior Hurling Championship as did the @GaaRedmonds Club #corkhurlinghistory
There were also several high profile footballers suspended which resulted in the @MacroomGAA Club withdrawing from the 1908 @OfficialCorkGAA County Senior Football Championship. The @KilleaghGAA Club from East Cork was also suspended by the County Board #corkhurlinghistory
The fall out from this saga was that all the above clubs withdrew the services of their players from the @OfficialCorkGAA Inter-County teams, the result being that both Senior teams were eliminated at the @MunsterGAA Senior Championship Semi-Final stage #corkhurlinghistory
The @OfficialCorkGAA Senior hurlers lost a classic encounter to @TipperaryGAA in Fermoy by just one point, while the 2-time defending @MunsterGAA Senior Football champions were sensationally defeated by @WaterfordGAA at Mallow #corkhurlinghistory

On this day in 1896 there was a @OfficialCorkGAA County Senior Football Championship match between Cork City rivals Lees and O’Briens at Cloghroe. The Cork Examiner reported that there were some extraordinary scenes witnessed and several people were injured #corkhurlinghistory
The first 30 minutes were incident free, with Lees leading by 1-02 to no score for the O’Briens. The latter began the second half scoring with a point, to which the Lees replied with a brace of points before all the trouble kicked off #corkhurlinghistory
Two opposing players had an altercation, it was not clear who was the aggressor according to the newspaper but words quickly gave way to blows and then sections of the crowd rushed on to the pitch and it was reported that walking sticks and hurleys were wielded freely
