On this day in 1947 defending champions @the_Barrs and @SarsfieldsCork clashed in the @OfficialCorkGAA County Senior Hurling Championship Final at the old Cork Athletic Grounds in front of crowd of 23,493 spectators #corkhurlinghistory
The Barr’s were looking to win their 14th @OfficialCorkGAA County Senior Hurling Championship, while @SarsfieldsCork were appearing in their fourth ever Final (1909, 1936 and 1940) and were still looking for their maiden title victory #corkhurlinghistory
The days scoring began with a point for @the_Barrs scored by P. Gallagher and then after 10 minutes of play Jim Goulding goaled for the champions, before the @OfficialCorkGAA Inter-County star Micka Brennan goaled for @SarsfieldsCork #corkhurlinghistory
Pat O’Leary then goaled from a close-in free for @SarsfieldsCork which gave them take the lead for the first time but back came @the_Barrs with a brace of points from P. Gallagher to draw the sides level and the same player then pointed from a free to nudge his side back in front
Tom Mulcahy in the @the_Barrs goal then saved a rasper from Micka Brennan before Sean Condon pointed for the Barr’s and then Gallagher hit his fifth point, to leave the halftime score line @the_Barrs 1-06 to 2 goals for @SarsfieldsCork
The second half scoring began with a goal for @the_Barrs scored by Billy Beckett but back came @SarsfieldsCork with points from Con Murphy and Pat O’Leary before Sean Condon placed Jim Sargent for a third @the_Barrs goal as the champions now led by seven points
The games had seen some rough play and the match referee Mr. Con Murphy of @ValleyRoversGAA and @OfficialCorkGAA had already dismissed three players by this stage, two players from @SarsfieldsCork and one Barr’s man, before Alan Lotty goaled from a long range free for Sars
Con Murphy pointed and then when Micka Brennan took a pass from Moss Dwyer and rattled the @the_Barrs netting the sides were back on level terms and then with normal time almost up Pat O’Leary pointed to give @SarsfieldsCork an unlikely lead #corkhurlinghistory
The Barr’s then saw a second man shown to the line and deep into injury time @the_Barrs forced a 70’ which was taken by Miah Lynch and his effort was sent to the @SarsfieldsCork net by Jim Sargent to seal a sensational late victory #corkhurlinghistory
The final score line was @the_Barrs 4-06 to 4-04 for @SarsfieldsCork and the victorious team captain was Sean Condon #corkhurlinghistory

On this day in 1896 there was a @OfficialCorkGAA County Senior Football Championship match between Cork City rivals Lees and O’Briens at Cloghroe. The Cork Examiner reported that there were some extraordinary scenes witnessed and several people were injured #corkhurlinghistory
The first 30 minutes were incident free, with Lees leading by 1-02 to no score for the O’Briens. The latter began the second half scoring with a point, to which the Lees replied with a brace of points before all the trouble kicked off #corkhurlinghistory
Two opposing players had an altercation, it was not clear who was the aggressor according to the newspaper but words quickly gave way to blows and then sections of the crowd rushed on to the pitch and it was reported that walking sticks and hurleys were wielded freely

On this day in 1908 @RockiesCork and @MidletonGaa clashed in the @OfficialCorkGAA County Senior Hurling Championship Final at Queenstown. There was strangely very little reporting in the Cork Examiner for such an important fixture #corkhurlinghistory
There was a large attendance present on what was a fine autumn day in East Cork. The Rockies began the brightest and quickly opened up a six point lead (1-03 to no score) and then Andy “Dooric” Buckley scores goal number two for @RockiesCork #corkhurlinghistory
The Magpies then got off the mark with their opening goal but unfortunately the reporting on the remainder of the match is extremely limited, suffice to say that @RockiesCork emerged victorious on a final score line of @RockiesCork 4-11 to 2-03 for @MidletonGaa
