#endsarsprotestsurvivors “If I didn’t have daughters, i would have killed you”On 11th October 2020, while I was busy online protesting I was unaware,my younger sis and brother,22 & 24 years respectively in Abuja bravely joined the #endsarsabujaprotest at Unity Fountain. A THREAD

She @call_me_dos couldn’t take any video/photo of the officers because her phone was seized and smashed. I thought to share on her behalf as she even feels her story is stale but no survivor’s story is stale and so kindly read and Share ⬇️ #endsarsabujaprotest @Symply_Tacha

1. Deborah marched with my younger brother and other brave youth during the #endsarsabujaprotest at Unity Fountain
2. Ahead of them were police officers. Black & yellow strip police cars were packed at the right side of the road 3. They knelt down and chanted #endsars ⬇️

4. Before she knew what was happening there was tear gas everywhere. She described the effects of the tear gas on her as burning her skin , chocking and blocking her airwaves (She’s asthmatic by the way) . @solumtobe @mrmacaronii @feminist_co

5. She got separated from my brother Isaac In the process . And anyone who knows how wide Abuja roads are will understand how difficult it would be to run to safety especially when you’re under attack. @Mochievous

She took a right turn which led her into a bush . She was scared but had to hide in the bush till the coast was clear . She was the alone , till a girl with wearing black and white saw her and told her to bend down and they hid together.

Fortunately Deborah had water with her so she shared it with the lady as the tear gas started to infiltrate the bush. They both laid down flat but their cover was blown when two other girls ran into the bush being chased by officers. @MomentsWithBren @funmioyatogun

7. They beat them with branches.About five of the men faced Deborah.She can’t post some photos of her body that were bruised because she can’t share it online.She recalls also being shot at on the foot but fortunately it missed her foot.#endsarsabujaprotest @aproko_doctor

When I asked her what was going through her mind in the bush being beaten by those officers, she said she made her peace with God.Her phone was seized and smashed

8. The officers beat them out of the bush and kept them in their police van. The police men continued insulting them for protesting. One of the police even told Deborah “If he didn’t have daughters ,he would have killed them” @UN @kikimordi @fkabudu @Mochievous @femalecoalition

9. They eventually let them out of the van and asked them to run . She was afraid that they might shoot at them as they ran. Fortunately they found a taxi that quickly took them out of the place. #endpolicebrutalityinnigeria #arrestkillerofficers #TREM #endsarsproteststories

10. If you didn’t know why sars and impunity must end. I can’t imagine how traumatized a number of the protesters have been. My sister didn’t even know that protesters were wounded were being supported by @EndSarsResponse @kikimordi @Mochievous @fkabudu & a host of others

Deborah and many others bravely put their lives on the line to march during these ongoing protests and must know that their survival stories matter in this fight for a better Nigeria.
