People who had skeletons in the closet or people ready to betray their communities and could even kill their own mothers. Chiefs, DOs, Legislative Council members, presidents and PMs who took over at "independence".
In Uthamakistan we call these people "Ngaati (home guards) or "kamatimu ("they or spears" colonial police)". In the rest of Kenya they're known as collaborators or sellouts.
This practice has continued with subsequent "post-independence" regimes. Check who has headed the most crucial dockets, independent institutions and departments in these regimes.
Rarely, less that 1% in my estimation, have we had people with necessary leadership skills and/or independence of thought, mind and deed in these positions.
This applies to security departments and agencies, licensing institutions/authorities, service delivery institutions, social services (all cash cows), etc.
They always appoint a qualified but compromised individual or a complete idiot and sycophant. Someone they have dirt on, or someone with flawed character... sometimes narcissists.
Someone whose loyalty is only to themselves and to their appointing authority, never to #WeThePeople. Never even to the tribe, though they pretend when they want to entice us for our votes.
And they're rewarded handsomely with our taxes (tenders), our land and our natural resources (and are swiftly punished if they stray). They have a license to loot at the pleasure and on behalf of the state.
Those who have tried to be independent and serve Kenyans with fidelity to the people, their jobs and the law have always been hounded out of office by the state, sometimes bankrupted, or even killed. Since colonial times. Without exception.
The @Kenyajudiciary has (Oct 2017) decided to be independent & serve Kenyans, best exemplified by 4 Supreme Court Judges but buttressed at all levels by Court of Appeal & High Court Judges as well as magistrates at various levels.
These Unprecedented Times Call for Business Unusual!
These are unprecedented times. Never in our recent history, have we not had an opposition party or group to check the excesses of the Executive. @KLM_VUMA
Even during the dark days of the single-party rule of the Moi dictatorship, voices of dissent still existed, despite the constant danger of imprisonment, torture and assassination.
This is the spirit that led us to fight to end the single-party rule. It is the spirit that led us to fight for constitutional reforms and the spirit that guided our fight for electoral justice in 2007, 2013 and 2017 at huge costs.
This video was shot in 2009 shortly after the #GoK forcefully evicted Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the 2007/2008 Post Election Violence (PEV) from the main camps and hid them in satellite camps away from local and international media glare.
It was produced by journalists Gatũ wa Mbaria and John Njerũ with the aim of letting Kenyans know the plight of the desperate people and possibly help them.
It inspired a major initiative that brought together famous musicians, comedians and marathoners to try and help. But once again, the govt infiltrated and destroyed the initiative.
African leaders drafted for themselves a Constitution that bans coups or if you wish to call it military take-over of power. They did it so that they stay in power for as long as they want, even against the wishes of the people.
African leaders consider the States they rule as their personal property. They employ their incompetent relatives and practice rampant theft/corruption with impunity. They subject ordinary people to untold suffering resulting in abject poverty.
