WE Charity co-founders Marc and Craig Kielburger have just released a bunch of documents to the Finance Committee about the Canada Student Service Grant. Here is what we've learned so far #cdnpoli
Sophie Trudeau attended 8 WE events between 2012-2020 and her expenses, which were hotels, car service, and flights, totaled $23,940.76. She also got $240 in gifts.
This is on top of a $1500 on time speaking fee she got for one of the events #cdnpoli
When Bill Morneau paid WE $41K the day before his testimony to discuss his involvement in the CSSG, he wasn't given a physical invoice. WE just estimated what the cost of the trips were, and told his staff #cdnpoli
What was covered in the $41K Morneau paid back?
- flights to and from Kenya and Ecuador, and local charter flights
- WE and Local guides
- Food and accommodations
- "All activities in WE communities," including building a WE school #cdnpoli
When Morneau and his family were in Ecuador, they took a "motorized canoe from Coca to Minga Lodge."
Craig and Marc Kielburger spoke with the following Ministers over the last two years #cdnpoli
Jean-Yves Duclos
Bill Morneau
Mary Ng
Bardish Chagger
Amarjeet Sohi
Pablo Rodriguez
Before WE signed the CSSG, they hired 196 program staff, 247 educators, and 22 others to manage the grant. Once the CSSG was terminated, WE laid all these people off #cdnpoli
It looks like WE has retroactively filed an in-house lobbyist registration with the Lobbying Commissioner, that covers 2020 and the CSSG.
WE says despite not being registered, they've since publicly released all the info they'd have needed to give to the Lobbying Commissioner
Don't know what constitutes an in-house lobbyist?
I didn't either until two minutes ago. Here's what the Lobbying Commissioner says #cdnpoli
I’m at a cottage with friends this week but @atRachelGilmore and I are still watching what happens with CPC leadership race. In talking with a number of Conservatives over the past week, here’s some of the most interesting info I’ve heard about the race #cdnpoli
Mackay started off as the front runner but outside of his team, no one seems confident he will win tonight. Multiple conservatives have told me the Mackay team is over estimating his support. Not saying Mackay won’t win, but the original narrative of a coronation faded fast.
One insider I talked with has seen the internal polls from all four candidates. Two of the camps polling shows the exact same numbers, both pointing to a third ballot O’Toole win. #cdnpoli
NEW - The PM says the 75% wage subsidy will be extended until December #cdnpoli
"I made a mistake in not recusing myself immediately given my families history and I'm sincerely sorry" - PM Trudeau, on WE Charity being involved in the Canada Student Service Grant #cdnpoli
"The mistake that we made was on me and I take responsibility for it" - PMJT, who reiterates that it was the public service that recommended that WE originally administer the Canada Student Service Grant #cdnpoli
A development in the House of Commons. The bells foyer are ringing, which means members should return to the House. Let’s see what this is all about. #cdnpoli#covid19
If there was any urgency to rush people back in, you don’t feel it from the HoC gallery. Minister Champagne just got out of his seat and told a CPC MP that he was going to get a slice of pizza and that he’d be back. There are currently no Liberal MP’s in the house #cdnpoli
The deputy Speaker Bruce Stanton and Government House Leader Pablo Rodriguez just went in the speakers chambers to have a discussion, just as Transport Minister Marc Garneau showed up for the Liberals. #cdnpoli#covid19
