Calls to "defund the police" are seductive but have the effect of boosting a burgeoning nationwide effort to privatize policing. Instead of traditional cops on city salaries you'll get Blackwater goons working directly for the ruling class. policechiefmagazine.org/private-police…
Private security firms like Academi (formerly Blackwater) are diversifying across commercial sectors including manufacturing and real estate. Under police privatization, the goons may not simply work for your local BID; they may *be* the BID. books.google.com/books?id=H-g3D…
Six months ago the usual suspects were (correctly) decrying the growing privatization of prisons, pointing out that for-profit lockups are incentivized to mistreat inmates and lengthen their sentences.

Rockefeller's COVID-19 testing and surveillance plan includes a "Covid Community Healthcare Corps" for contact tracing. Presumably they intend to roll out a low-wage jobs program compelling desperate people to spy on their neighbors. rockefellerfoundation.org/national-covid… Image
When you get tested they’ll load information about everyone you know into a massive database. Significant that this process is described, not as private or anonymized, but as “privacy-centric.” In other words, not private.

“The distinction between worker and pauper vanished.” To understand the catastrophic effects of UBI, it’s worth considering the Speenhamland system, a prototypical form of UBI enforced in rural Britain in the early 1800s. Memorably analyzed in Hobsbawm’s classic _Captain Swing._
The Speenhamland system, like the UBI so deeply desired by the contemporary ruling class, allowed employers to lower wages below starvation levels because public finances would automatically take up the slack.

Ruling class will attempt to leverage current crisis to ram UBI down our throats.
UBI will exert powerful downward pressure on wages and force people into subsistence jobs doled out at the king’s pleasure. Ultra-cheap labor handed over to the billionaires.
Of course, @aoc is being used to sell this attack on the people. The fact that she's invoking bipartisanship is a dead giveaway that UBI is yet another scam and a raid on the people's assets.
