Almost daily, through my work providing advice and advocacy to vulnerable families in education settings, I hear from another family whose child's #privacy has been breached by education officers and headteachers at Scottish local authorities. #childrensrights 1/
Systematic breaches of data processing laws are becoming endemic in Scotland. I've even had two LAs tell me that they can break data processing laws because their local policies say they can. 2/
And now we have a report from SHEF that backs that up with evidence from all over the country. @ICOnews and @cypcs can't ignore these breaches anymore. 3/
It's shocking, but until now, the relevant bodies - the #ICO, the #GTCS, the #CYPCS, and indeed the Scottish Government - have not been even remotely interested in stopping it. They have been complicit in systematic children's rights abuses. I implore them to take action. 4/
In law, Scotland's children may have their privacy protected, but in practice they don't. This is #GIRFEC in action. LAs can do this because they know that families cannot afford to take them to court, and the supposed regulators are sitting on their hands. 5/
This week has seen a rash of reports to education support groups of misinformation and deliberate disinformation by education professionals in Scotland. Even this jaded advocate-activist has been shocked by it. 1/
No, you do not need to give reasons to take your child out of a school. No, you do not need consent to withdraw if your child has not attended a school. 2/
No, you do not need to "register" as a home educator. No, schools should not be asked by their bosses for reports on parents. 3/
