In a nut shell, it’s power. BCNDP has a minority government that kept being held back by Green Party threats of non confidence. BCNDP want a majority to increase their power.
Fed NDP ARE the party holding Liberals back. So they wish to maintain influence and power.
I don’t ever want to hear NDP supporters speak/write the words proportional representation ever again.
PR has always been about power. NDP and Greens will NEVER hold a majority federal government. Their only option to wield power is a minority government.
But NDP are abundantly in support of FPTP when it can obtain a provincial majority. A majority is Horgan’s ambition.
So fair warning Dippers, if you ever mention PR to me again as “fair,” I’m bookmarking this thread to call out NDP hypocrisy and double standards.
As I’ve written numerous times, PR is a SCAM for fringe parties to wield disproportionate power and influence.
Two BC Greens held the balance of POWER in BC & shaped policy to Green policy whims. Power held by a TINY minority of Greens vs NDP with half of electorate’s support.
Horgan grew tired of being held back in policy development. He called an election. He may be punished for doing so. Greens are working diligently to split the progressive vote.
BC Liberals may gain a majority because Greens got too selfish to retain a power imbalance.
The Westminster system is based on majoritarian governance with accommodation for minority interests.
If Horgan gets a majority, it’s his RESPONSIBILITY to consult with Greens and BC Liberals during policy development. But he’s not forced to cow-tow to Green demands.
That’s how governance in a Westminster system works. One party is given final authority. In a minority, a fringe party holds the balance of power. A minority can threaten to withdraw support to force compliance to their demands.
Which is why minorities are weak governance.
I’m thoroughly convinced that Greens only ambition is to split the vote. Federally & provincially.
When the matron of Greens cautions AGAINST doing what’s ethical to HOODWINK public perception and keeps a man known to have helped cover up sexual harassment, its about power.
Pure power attainment. Elizabeth May and her two MP caucus members wrote a letter in support of retaining a man who self admitted sexual harassment cover up at his prior employment. Because he’s brown and appealed to BIPOC and LGBTQ communities. He attracted potential greens.
PR has always been about power & will always be about power. It has nothing to do with fairness or a voice for the public. It’s a method of giving a minority control over a majority.
And that is counter indicative to democratic principles and democracy itself.
Greens should fold their federal party since that letter May and her caucus wrote was exposed.
The Green Party in Canada cant break the 10% support barrier after decades of trying. The only reason May won a seat was because someone gave her a platform at a debate.
The Green Party is the definition of fringe politics. Why people continue to support the party is a mystery to me.
But their existence itself is no mystery. It’s to split progressive votes. Progressive election wins were never in question when Greens didn’t exist as an option.
Since May joined parliament, every election the progressive vote is split 3 ways. And a party with maximum 40% support (CPC) has the opportunity to win majorities because of that split vote.
Otherwise CPC could NEVER win a majority!
Opportunism is not just a feature of the far right. It’s a feature in fringe belief systems.
NDP is a larger, but still fringe party. Incapable of gaining more than 20% support from the federal electorate, NDP is also fringe.
Which is why they will support maintaining a minority government when it works in their favour. And support a FPTP majority when that works in their favour.
Who needs PR when fringe extremist beliefs use populism and opportunism to manipulate power to their advantage?
Foundational democratic principles of cooperation & compromise are impossible to achieve when 3 polarized factions of progressives continue to bicker & argue about whose rendition of the same policy is the best. Three parties with essentially the same policies divide a majority.
PR allows progressives to shoot themselves in the foot and tie their hands behind their back for every election, while battling for support with a party that would eliminate human rights, change our constitution & frankly, exterminate ALL progressivism, given the opportunity.
Progressives need to see the forest through the trees. The INDIVIDUAL TREES DON’T MATTER in politics. It’s the forest that must be preserved. Democracy is the forest in this analogy. All trees can grow which ever way they want when we maintain the forest.
But CPC bulldozers are at the edge of the forest waiting to raze the entire forest of trees because progressives are arguing about whether poplars, birch or spruce should be in charge.
WTF is arguing about BS going to do to preserve democracy? Absolutely nothing!
Can we stop fighting amongst ourselves to focus on democratic forest maintenance and rid ourselves of the risk of bulldozers ready at the helm to clear the whole forest only to allow just pines and uproot every other type of tree, shrub, wildlife, flowers and ecosystem?
I kind of like the diversity of a forest, I’m not interested in a homogenous pine tree habitat devoid of variety and nuance and freedom.
See the forest. Forget your inner tree and work to save the whole forest.
We need to work together. Not vie for power.
And don’t even @ me about PR or you’re blocked!
I have zero tolerance for intolerance and a handy thumb to block inanity and partisan bickering.

Trump was calm, calculated and speaking to his base. He wasn’t speaking to the Rest Of America, just the Q’Anon and religious nationalists. That’s all who really matters to him and Republicans.
It’s like journalists and paid pundits haven’t learned anything in 4 years. SMFH! 🤦🏻♀️
Exactly like I noted in the embedded thread, Trump doesn’t bother speaking to the general public. His strategy is to win the Electoral College, not a popular vote.
He just validated his hold over his voter base by tricking Biden into defending himself from conspiracy theories.
First, a general strike would involve more than teachers. It means a significant portion of the community marches in protest until the government steps down.
Canada has had 1 general strike in the past. But that was a labour dispute.
A GENERAL STRIKE involves more than just one labour group. It’s a demonstration of public solidarity & unity. It would mean doctors, public servants, nurses, teachers, parents, and all supportive citizens refuse to work and march in the streets until the government resigns.
Triggering visceral emotions creates allegiance in voting behaviour.
Accusations used: 1. Sexual impropriety 2. Criminal corruption 3. Substance abuse and violence 4. Targeted hate like racism, misogyny & homophobia
Every accusation is amplified exponentially. It doesn’t matter if people believe it. It only matters that in comparison to other candidates, the accusation exists.
Smears create doubts and trigger a visceral response to the alleged crime.
US citizens: this is hate speech. It is irresponsible to allow hate speech to be used without consequence. Americans need to rethink their support of freedom to incite violence and hatred. You’d solve half your problems. Lives over liberty.
The problem is a restriction on individual liberty is frowned upon by Americans. But seat belt laws, speed limits, yelling fire in a crowded theatre. Those are all limits on individualism. Inciting hatred is worse than those 3 examples by magnitudes, combined. Yet it’s allowed.
People are being targeted because Americans value their liberties. How many must die before hate speech becomes a regulatory exception to the American view of freedom of speech.
Slavery used to be acceptable. Lincoln made it unacceptable. But allowed hate to remain in place.
The odds that they did NOT assist some cheating to occur in Canada approaches zero
That means the elections of all provincial conservative governments and premiers across Canada are legitimately in question if it can be proven that AIQ or another entity with the capacity to aggregate data and micro target Social Media users occurred in Canada.
