I hear @JoeBiden is out there attacking the “Republican governor of Arizona.” I guess he *does* see “red and blue” states after all. But if you’re going after AZ, Joe, get your facts straight… 1/
Early in the pandemic, I prohibited cities from implementing onerous shutdowns on local businesses and citizens as some local politicians threatened to bring our entire economy to a complete halt. 2/
It’s paid off. Arizona’s economy is recovering faster and stronger than states that took the extreme approach. Unemployment is down, and jobs are growing. 3/
When mayors later asked for the ability to enforce mask mandates, I responded swiftly — issuing an executive order allowing them to do so. 4/
We have promoted mask use and common sense. Masks work. Today we see masks worn statewide in nearly every setting as part of reopening guidelines. Our focus has been on compliance and public health education. 5/
Our goal from the beginning has been to protect public health and at the same time keep things moving in AZ — schools, universities, businesses. 6/
Our economy is open and our citizens’ health and safety is prioritized. 7/
We are data and fact driven; not politically driven. That’s clearly not the DC-way, but it is the Arizona way. 8/8
"The unemployment rate in September was 12.6% in Nevada, 11% in California, 10.5% in Rhode Island, 10.2% in Illinois, and 9.7% in New York compared to 6.7% in Arizona, 6.4% in Georgia, 5.4% in Wisconsin and 5% in Utah." wsj.com/articles/red-a…@WSJ
@WSJ “Daily coronavirus cases in Arizona fell by 75% by late August, possibly in correlation with stricter mitigation measures, per a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).”
@WSJ@CDCgov “When the dust settled as the second quarter ended, June 30, 2020 – also the first quarter for the pandemic – Arizona saw a net increase of nearly 20,000 new businesses, according to FRED.”
@WSJ@CDCgov@phxbizjournal "Arizona is positioned for a faster economic recovery than the rest of the nation, and with some strategic moves on the part of state policymakers and citizens, it should jump back to a leading spot within next year or so,"
@CNN Dr. Birx: “Governor Ducey's directives to not only increase our respect for one another, but that clear communication coming from his health team that made it clear that wearing a mask will change the spread of this virus.”
“AZ’s healthier data is due in part to being one of the fastest-growing in the country pre-pandemic, & industries like construction & remote retail remain strong. Ducey’s early & gradual reopening of the economy also contributed to jobs & economic growth” azbigmedia.com/business/heres…
"...the economy has remained open as we have slowed the spread of the disease. The governor’s declaration of essential services... became a national model, ensuring continuity in sectors as varied as manufacturing to telecommunications to construction." azcentral.com/story/opinion/…

Today, I’m announcing additional actions to contain the spread of #COVID19 in Arizona. 1/
Effective at 8:00 p.m. tonight, we are instituting a month-long pause on the operations of bars, gyms, movie theaters, waterparks and tubing rentals. This will help relieve stress on our health care system and give time for new transmissions to slow. 2/
Effective today, organized events of more than 50 people are prohibited. Arizonans should celebrate the 4th of July responsibly this weekend, including by staying home, avoiding larger gatherings, and wearing a mask if you do go out. 3/
We must contain the spread of #COVID19 in Arizona. The current increase in cases and hospitalizations is unacceptable. All our efforts must be focused on this, and we are asking all Arizonans to help. 1/
So this weekend, remember: You are safer at home. If you do go out, wear a mask. We can’t stress this enough. COVID19 is widespread in Arizona, and you need to protect yourself and others. 2/
To our business community: public health guidance MUST BE FOLLOWED. Local authorities have been empowered to enforce these guidelines set forth through Executive Order and by public health. This has the power of law. 3/
I want to commend our law enforcement officers on their work last night, especially @Arizona_DPS, @PhoenixPolice & all the supporting agencies involved in protecting downtown & major targets, like our freeways. The @AZNationalGuard also played a critical role in this response. 1/
@Arizona_DPS@PhoenixPolice@AZNationalGuard One thing is clear: The more aggressive approach downtown was needed, and it worked. Now, more needs to be done, in more places around the state, to protect law and order and public safety. 2/
@Arizona_DPS@PhoenixPolice@AZNationalGuard The looting and violence we saw last night, especially in Scottsdale, simply cannot be tolerated. And it won't be. Destruction of property does not qualify as freedom of expression. 3/
As we gradually breathe life back into our economy, it’s important that Arizonans continue to act responsibly and make smart decisions. Arizona is following @CDCgov guidance to ensure we protect public health as we #ReturnStronger. 1/
Arizona has taken a calm and steady approach to protecting health and slowing the spread of #COVID19. We’re following the guidance and gating criteria established by the White House and @CDCgov. And we’re tracking the data closely. Here’s what it says: 1/
Gating criteria 1: Symptoms ✅
Arizona has experienced a five-week downward trajectory of COVID and Influenza-like symptoms reported at our hospitals. 2/
Gating criteria 2: Cases ✅
As testing has rapidly expanded, Arizona is experiencing a four-week downward trajectory of positive cases as a percentage of total diagnostic tests. 3/
Arizona’s focus has been protecting public health and slowing the spread of #COVID19 with a calm, steady approach. We’ve been guided by the data and recommendations of public health officials. 1/
Physical distancing is working. We’re slowing the spread. We’ve made significant progress & can’t let up. That’s why I'm extending AZ's Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected Order until May 15. This is the right thing to do based on the data & information we have right now. 2/
We’re also continuing to breathe life back into our economy. We’ve seen our big box stores innovate; let's allow other retail to do the same. Starting next week, retail stores can begin to partially re-open with sanitation and physical distancing measures in place. 3/
