Worrying but curious article in the Independent by Rob Merrick on the current alliances of the Tory Party in Europe, with Johnson's approval, with a range of Far Right/Islamophobic parties. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
Worrying because what has seemed to have gone under the radar since the beginning of March 2020, when the Pandemic moved fully centre stage, is that the European Conservatives and Reformists Group had invited in a new set of groups which includes
for example AfD in Germany and Salvini's far right Italian party as well as Austria's Freedom Party, founded in the '50s by a former Nazi minister and SS officer. Other additions - the far right Danish Peopel's Party, and the openly racist Conservative People's Party of Estonia.
Also there: Vlams Belang in Belgium (a minor rebrand of the older Vlaams Blok which dissolved in 2004 after a trial condemned it for racism). The strongest groups in the alliance remain the UK Tory Party and Poland's Law and Justice Party, followed by Salvini's, then the AFD.
But curious too, since many of the most unsavoury groups represented in it, eg the Bulgarian United Patriots, who every year play a major part in organising a march through Sofia celebrating a pro-Nazi general during the war who was assassinated by a Jewish anti-fascist partisan,
were part of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group in the Euro Parliament for many years before the link up with additional far right groups. In recent years none of the mainstream papers/TV news were prepared to publicise and condemn these thriving links. Why?
because they were so obsessed with trying to link @jeremycorbyn's Labour with antisemitism on the flimsiest "evidence". They gave the Tories a free pass on their formal ongoing connections with antisemitic, Islamophobic, far right parties. Interested @EHRC? No, didn't think so

"If I have not seen the overwhelming majority of institutions adopting the definition by Christmas then I will act." Education Minister Gavin Williamson threatens funding cuts to universities that do not sign up to a deeply flawed, discredited definition/policy on antisemitism.
This old definition was resurrected by a body naming itself the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). It links a vague and wordy definition to a set of examples which are less to do with tackling antisemitism than with shielding Israeli policy from criticism.
Of course universities should have robust and effective policies for dealing with all racism and bigotry including antisemitism, but why the pressure to adopt this policy which has been disowned by Kenneth Stern who originally wrote it for a different body and different purpose?

As a Jewish member of the Labour Party I thank @Keir_Starmer for his New Year message, but his claim that he has "been... establishing new ties right across the Jewish community and its organisations" is simply untrue. jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/sir-keir-starm… via @JewishNewsUK
At the GE 2019 there were 100s of left-wing Jews canvassing for Labour especially in marginals. They were members of @JVoiceLabour @JewishSocialist @jewishsolidAct @NaamodUK and @_JFJFP . As far as i know @Keir_Starmer has not had meetings with any of these organisations.
I wrote to him personally in early April urging him to do so. My letter was ignored for 2.5 months. After reminding him about it I got a brief "one size fits all" form letter from his office staff which answered none of my nine specific questions or requests. I wrote back to say

I see that the Jewish Chronicle editor, Stephen Pollard (who still moonlights for the anti-immigrant Mail, Telegraph and Express) reached a new low with a tweet mocking @jeremycorbyn's pride in his mum being at the Battle of Cable Street, asking "on which side"?
This was his puerile response to the fact that one of Corbyn's brothers (Piers) was mixing with fascists+ other conspiracy theorists eg David Icke, at the anti-maskers/COVID-deniers gathering in London. As one of Corbyn's sons put it "associating with fascists is disgusting..."
He added: "Piers Corbyn speaks for Piers Corbyn and only Piers Corbyn". I didn't see Pollard's tweet till today. He blocked me some time ago. Why? Maybe because I exposed his lavish praise for the Islamophobic, and Enoch Powell admirer, Douglas Murray? Or perhaps,

Observer leads with @Keir_Starmer demanding that PM delivers on promise of all children back at school, no ifs, no buts etc. I'm a retired primary school teacher who taught for 23 years in inner London, (NUT rep for most of those) + I know the unions are right to be worried.
My hardest job as union rep was getting teachers too ill to teach to take time off to recover. In 23 years I never met a teacher who was not committed first and foremost to welfare and safety of children. Shocking that @Keir_Starmer shows little interest in unions H&S concerns.
My union (NEU) of which, though retired, I'm still a branch committee member, has led the way with demands on government for the benefit of children, teachers and their families and has a plan. Their five tests have not been met. @RLong_Bailey backed these, but Starmer does not.

Good work from @JustJews focusing on Board of Deps demands on the Labour Party. Throughout a lot of their history (since 1760) the BoD has been criticised for its lack of representativeness and its closeness to the conservative British establishment
This has especially affected its anti-racist/anti-fascist work. In the 1930s it was attacked by working class Jews in the East End for complacency in response to Mosley's fascists, for telling Jews to NOT to oppose them on the streets (eg at Cable Street).
Just after WW2 they berated "43 Group" anti-fascists for their strong response to antisemitic groups. In the 1970s the BoD advised Jews to stay away from the Anti-Nazi League, a mass anti-fascist movement with wide support from MPs, trade unions, footballers, academics etc

Conspiracy theories are all about unearthing secret plotting by sinister powerful groups, revealing a hidden hand. Over many decades fascist groups have advanced antisemitic conspiracy theories, which target Jewish individuals or small groups
as responsible for social, economic and political developments which they abhor. Fascists rail against mass immigration to the West, calling it the “Great Replacement”. They claim to see the “hidden hand” of Jews behind this. Very right wing politicians in several countries
like Trump, Orban, Netanyahu, Rees Mogg see the hidden hand of Hungarian Jew George Soros behind protest movements and pro-migrant, pro-refugee movements. When @Keir_Starmer and @BoDPres , Marie Van der Zyl attack Maxine Peake’s claim that American police had learned a certain
