Today, I’m running the @WonderWomanRun 5k in honor of all patients with functional neurological disorder, who have to fight every day like superheroes to get care they need and manage their often disabling symptoms. Donate to the @FNDSociety for change! facebook.com/donate/2715442…
If you are a healthcare professional and want a refresher on Functional Neurological Disorders, this JAMA neurology review is a great read, put together under the leadership of the great @AlbertoEspay and @franci_morgante pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29868890/
Having been ignored for too long, FND is seeing an exciting area of research aimed at better understanding its pathophysiology, such as this recent publication coming out of a multidisciplinary workshop organized by Karen Rommelfanger and @RapaportMarkcup.org/2Hpt4Rk
Finally, for those of you attempting to invalidate the lived experience of patients with FND, you are wrong. On behalf of @WNGtweets, we are calling all healthcare professionals to learn and work together to achieve the best quality of life for everyone! @FNDSociety@FNDHope

I am extremely impressed by the incredible resilience of the #FNDtwitter community. Dealing with a difficult to manage diagnosis, poor access to care and on top of this being bullied by other patients/patient advocates, they speak the truth and don't let themselves be silenced.
I am honored every day to help patients understand #FND in its complexities, develop a treatment plan that addresses core symptoms and comorbidities and work together towards better quality of life. @FNDHope
Denying the validity of a functional neurological disorder diagnosis is short-sighted and not helpful for patients. In fact, much harm can be done when FND goes undiagnosed/misdiagnosed and mistreated. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31115678/ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32295508/
