I am extremely impressed by the incredible resilience of the #FNDtwitter community. Dealing with a difficult to manage diagnosis, poor access to care and on top of this being bullied by other patients/patient advocates, they speak the truth and don't let themselves be silenced.
I am honored every day to help patients understand #FND in its complexities, develop a treatment plan that addresses core symptoms and comorbidities and work together towards better quality of life. @FNDHope
Denying the validity of a functional neurological disorder diagnosis is short-sighted and not helpful for patients. In fact, much harm can be done when FND goes undiagnosed/misdiagnosed and mistreated.

Here, we reported on a patient misdiagnosed with myasthenia gravis and CIPD before correctly diagnosed and treated for FND and recovering from his functional gait and speech disorder with a short FND specific rehab course. practicalneurology.com/articles/2017-…
We still have much more to learn, especially related to nonmotor symptoms including functional cognitive issues, but we can only get there together, with curiosity, respect and scientific integrity. Grateful to the @FNDSociety for providing outstanding education with easy access!

Today, I’m running the @WonderWomanRun 5k in honor of all patients with functional neurological disorder, who have to fight every day like superheroes to get care they need and manage their often disabling symptoms. Donate to the @FNDSociety for change!

Having been ignored for too long, FND is seeing an exciting area of research aimed at better understanding its pathophysiology, such as this recent publication coming out of a multidisciplinary workshop organized by Karen Rommelfanger and @RapaportMark cup.org/2Hpt4Rk Image
