Thondai Nadu, northern part of ancient Thamizhagam with northern boundary at Thirupati is a treasure trove of divine temples. Also the birth & tapo stal of great saints.

One such ancient temple was brought to light by Annamalaiyar Arappani Kuzhu recently

Sridevi Bhoodevi sametha Sri Adi Kesava Perumal temple at Bagasalai, 45 kms from Poonamallee near Chennai. This temple was in a highly dilapidated condition when Kuzhu surveyed it before Uzhavarapani.

Probably there was no Pooja done for last 200 years. Villagers themselves avoided this place as it was home to many poisonous snakes. The temple structure was completely hidden in dense vegetation.

The entrance was also completely hidden. Two overgrown trees of around 100 feet high grown on walls of this temple. We also learnt that the idols are kept safely in Bala Subramanya swamy temple nearby.

Uzhavarapani was successfully done on 09.02.2020 with active participation of members and 60 student volunteers from Rajalakshmi College of Engineering, Chennai.

After removing the bushes in front, we could see the Bali peetam and a Mahamandapam with 16 sculptured pillars

Artha Mandayam and Garba Gruha were too dark and it was risky to venture in due to unstable walls.

Plants and overgrown branches were removed from top of the temple and cleaned. With JCB, bushes were cleared from temple’s surroundings. The transformation was visible.

As the Uzhavarapani completed, We offered Pooja to Adi Kesava Perumal with Sridevi and Bhoodevi.

It was so satisfying to see this abide of divinity rise again.
