Really creepy: A number of high-ranking NGOs tasked with development work focused on children have started referring to child sexual exploitation as "child sex work". This is not rare, but a reoccurring phenomenon. And they are directly lobbied by the pro-prostitution lobby.
People hear "sex work" and they think "adult" and "consenting". In practice the term is now used for anything under the sun that involves a man getting his rocks off and someone getting paid for it. Be they adult, minor, under pimp control, literally trafficked across a border...
According to UNICEF 12-year-olds can be "sex workers"! This is so sinister and with this I can no longer extend the goodwill of "well, people are just trying to use respectful language". Money is irrelevant. An adult touching or penetrating a child is rape childhub.org/en/system/tdf/…
It's bad enough to label adults in slave-like conditions meeting the international definition of human trafficking as "sex work" as the pro-prostitution lobby likes to do - but doing that with children? This literally protects child rapists. unicef.org/infobycountry/…
Let me be absolutely clear: This is not about the support worker on the ground (though if they have internalized that its work and a choice for a literal child that's bad and they're absolutely responsible) - broadly speaking this is top-down dictating of harm-denying language.
Not weird then that UNICEF is endorsing the full deregulation of the sex industry - aka instead of police pimps and sex buyers run the show since there has yet to emerge such a thing as an effective "sex workers union" anywhere in the entire world: c-fam.org/friday_fax/top…
Honestly, I cannot bear to read a document like this: childhub.org/en/system/tdf/… I am not a child abuse survivor, but I did experience assault as an 18-year-old and having what is by all international standards the rape of a child referred to as "work" is really hard to stomach.
If you're interested to learn more about the connection between (the lobbying for the deregulation and expansion of) adult #prostitution and the commercial sexual exploitation of children - here is my blog series on the subject: ellyarrow.wordpress.com/2019/07/13/how…

While parts of Germany have reopened the sex industry with supposed hygiene plans that johns are breaking left & right - in Bavaria you can still get arrested for being in a no-prostitution-zone - more police control fo that during Corona. Two Hungarian women just got arrested.
Why do we emphasize women's vulnerability in prostitution? Because we need at least to end these arrests. But if an illegal brothel is seen on par with an illegal hair salon it's harder to argue against her arrest (not that I'd be jubilant about a desperate hairdresser's arrest).
What gov should do is provide for all people. And not to overstate and argue that German poverty does not exist (it certainly does!) access to gov funds is easier if you're from here than on a potentially dubious visa from Eastern Europe. These women are exceptionally vulnerable.
Germany, 2020: Brothel owner runs for mayor of major city Stuttgart and labels prostitution and trafficking survivor (exploited in legal brothels like his) who is alarmed by his candidacy "the real victimizer of women!". We are so far beyond parody. Its throw things o'clock.
It's just classic abuser style: Inverse victim and perpetrator. Pimps are allies to women and survivors advocating for and often single handedly running exit services are a scourge!!! Of course a bunch of other pimps came to his aid and are slandering her all over the place.
Worst as ever are random women supporting him not her. Lecturing a survivor that prostitution is actually really fine and that legal brothels are totally safe (the exact places she was groomed and raped for years). We are making progress but there is still so much victim blaming.
Berlin caves to demands from Japanese government to remove statue commemorating the sexual enslavement of Korean women and girls by Japanese soldiers during WWII claiming irreparable damage to Japanese-German relations. taz.de/Gedenken-an-Tr…
Euphemistically referred to as 'comfort women' some survivors of Japanese military brothels are still alive and fighting to not have history forgotten and repeat itself. The statue in Berlin was supposed to aid international awareness of this violence. history.com/news/comfort-w…
The number of victims of Japanese military sexual slavery is estimated at around 200.000 women and girls between the ages of 11-29. They were Korean, Chinese, Burmese, Eastern-Timorian, Indonesian, Malaysian, Dutch, Papua-Neugenian, Thai and Japanese. washingtonpost.com/news/worldview…
Important reminder: Whether this particular story is real or not - the vast majority of women on OnlyFans never make any meaningful money! But they are at risk of their images being stolen and of being pushed to enter prostitution or pornography. Don't buy the lies.
I wanna be 100% clear: I do not support shaming women on OnlyFans or any other part of the porn industry no matter their reason of entry. But I will always speak up when its claimed that the industry will bring you stability and wealth. It is far more likely to bring you harm.
What sites like OnlyFans are mostly accomplishing is wealth for the mostly MEN - many of them pornographers and pimps - who actually own them and take their cut on every sale. OnlyFans is mostly paying for the mansions of pornographer-pimps like Tim Stokely 👇🏻🤮
It's a subject I've been thinking about a lot, too. We don't and shouldn't speak over affected women - at the same time they can't always be speaking, because it is exhausting and may require revisiting painful memories (and some women's former exploiters are still out there!).
This may be a problem that can't fully be solved. I for one don't speak about my personal trauma (not prostitution but IPV) very much, because it is too painful to have it dissected by the public. Every survivor of violence who does speak has my huge respect.
