Today is Oxi (No) Day where we mythologize Metaxas saying NO to Mussolini's demands that Greece capitulates and becomes an Italian vassal.

Not only were the Italians thrown back into Albania from where they invaded, but the course of World War 2 changed because of Greek heroes.
My grandfather Nikos Papathanasiou from Skoteini village in Argolis was 16 years old when the Italians attempted to invade Greece.

He stole his brothers ID card to show he was of legal fighting age.

During the war and resistance period, he was shot 4x on 3 different occasions.
On reflecting how the Greeks fought against the Italian invasion attempt in World War II, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill said "Hence, we will not say that Greeks fight like heroes, but that heroes fight like Greeks."
"When the entire World had lost all hope, the Greek people dared to question the invincibility of the German monster raising against it the proud spirit of freedom." - Franklin Roosevelt.
"We thank the Greek people, whose resistance decided World War II. You fought unarmed and won, small against big. You gave us time to defend ourselves." - Joseph Stalin.

1) Terrorist apologist justify the attacks on France because of its 132 years of colonizing Algeria.

Greeks were colonized by Turks for 400-500 years, experienced a genocide (1914-23) with a million exterminated & a pogrom (1955) that expelled 120,000 Greeks from Constantinople.
2) This is not to minimize the Algerian experience of brutal French colonization but to highlight it's not a justification why "Muslims have a right to be angry & kill millions of French people,” as the former Malaysian PM said.

Does he support Greeks killing millions of Turks?
3) Now of course I do not support Greeks having a "right" to kill millions of Turks for the crimes of their ancestors like that idiot former Malaysian PM believes.

But terrorist apologists who use any attempt to justify terrorism in France open up an ugly pandora's box.

When will Turks realize that Erdogan's bravado against Greece is to distract them from the bad economic situation.

While Turkish ships waste fuel in the Aegean attempting to do impossible seismic survey's, Greeks continue to drink frappe on the islands and watch the lira tumble.
Turkey's unemployment rate is currently 12.9%.

Unemployment in 2011 was 9.1%.

The 2023 target is 5%.

Erdogan is making Turkey go backwards but Turks are foolish enough to be distracted with hostilities against Greece
ahvalnews.com/unemployment/t…)%20reported%20on%20its%20website.
Turkish economist Mahfi Egilmez says an unemployment rate of 24.6% is “the closest to reality," and not the official rate of 12.9%.

BUT QUICK, LOOK AT US ATTEMPT TO STEAL GREEK GAS DEPOSITS, LOOK HOW BIG AND STRONG TURKEY IS NOW!

War of nerves now.

Will Greece keep Turkish ships out of their Exclusive Economic Zone as they promised?

Will Turkey backdown as it embarrassingly did a few weeks ago? I doubt Erdogan will allow that to happen again.

Serious escalation by Turkey that could lead to conflict.
7 Turkish warships are accompanying the Oruç Reis research vessel into Greece’s Exclusive Economic Zone. No word just yet on how exactly Greece will respond to this provocation.
The "meltdown" of the Turkish lira, as the professor correctly calls, is why Erdogan escalated hostilities with Greece today.

He is distracting Turks as much as possible from his own failures and corruption, and Turks are stupid enough to be fooled.

THREAD: Today we commemorate the Greek Genocide victims of Pontus, killed by Ottoman & Kemalist forces. 1 million Greeks were massacred - 353,000 of them from Pontus alone.

We will never forget even if Turkey continues to deny it.

THREAD: On this day in 1955, The National Organisation of Cypriot Fighters (EOKA) began an armed campaign to end British colonial rule and unify Cyprus and Greece.

Georgios Grivas, with only 300 fighters, won Cyprus' Independence from the British.
1) On 1 April, EOKA launched simultaneous attacks against various British or British-linked facilities in Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol and Famagusta - radio stations, courts, police stations, military camps, and colonial administrators homes.
2) The most glorious battle for EOKA was the Battle of Spilia, fought on 12 December 1955 when 12 Greeks took on 700 British soldiers in the Troodos mountains and won.

The British Army attempted to encircle the headquarters of EOKA . But it did not work out that way. Instead...

THREAD: Heroes of the Greek Revolution to achieve liberation of the barbaric Ottomans.

If you haven't read on the short history of the Greek War of Independence, you can do it here.

1) The most prominent independence hero is Theodoros Kolokotronis . He was born a klepht, a mountain bandit, and his father was killed in another revolt against the Turks 50 years before the success of the Greek War of Independence. He won many battles with inferior numbers.
2) Nikitaras "the Turk-eater" was the nephew of Kolokotronis. He got the nickname "Turk-eater" after the Battle of Dervenakia where he killed so many Turks he used a total of five swords because four broke. The swords he used were mostly from his dead enemies.
