THREAD: Heroes of the Greek Revolution to achieve liberation of the barbaric Ottomans.

If you haven't read on the short history of the Greek War of Independence, you can do it here.

1) The most prominent independence hero is Theodoros Kolokotronis . He was born a klepht, a mountain bandit, and his father was killed in another revolt against the Turks 50 years before the success of the Greek War of Independence. He won many battles with inferior numbers.
2) Nikitaras "the Turk-eater" was the nephew of Kolokotronis. He got the nickname "Turk-eater" after the Battle of Dervenakia where he killed so many Turks he used a total of five swords because four broke. The swords he used were mostly from his dead enemies.
3) The warrior priest Papaflessas who was martyred at the Battle of Maniaki. He was one of the original instigators of the Greek Revolution against the Ottoman Empire and fought so bravely that the Egyptian Commander honored his body. A Greek classic movie is made of his story.
4) Athanasios Diakos & 48 men replicated King Leonidas and the 300 Spartans. They made a final stand against the Turks at Thermopylae. He was captured and asked to join the Ottoman Army, in which he refused and said "I was born a Greek, I shall die a Greek." He was then martyred.
5) Kyriakoulis Mavromichalis led 3000 Greeks with Kolokotronis in the Battle of Valtetsi against 5000 Ottomans, killing over 600 of them for 150 martyrs. After their victory, Mavromichalis shouted "Where are you going you cuckold Bey & you Albanian dogs?"

7) Manto Mavrogenous was another heroine coming from a wealthy family. She achieved the rank of Lieutenant General and led many men into battle. She spent money for the relief of the soldiers & their families, & on weaponry. She fund raised across Europe, including Paris.
8) Constantine Kanaris was a navy captain. Wanting revenge for the Chios massacre, he destroyed the flagship of the Turkish admiral Nasuhzade Ali Pasha. He set it on fire and all 2000 men aboard, naval officers & common sailors, as well as Kara-Ali himself, were killed.
