@adeboyeBGO has been talking about 'Protecting privacy and sensitive data in healthcare'

He has emphasised the need to create good cyber security culture and attitude in employees, over technical fixes

Since research shows that carelessness and human error leads to many breaches, there is need to enlighten employees - including management.

He also stresses the need to protect patient privacy as it is a right of every citizen.

Cyber security regulation should not be treated as checklists to be completed.

In order to ensure laws are effective, defaulters must be held accountable. In some cases, organisations are taken to court.

Our next speaker is @Miiday and she will be speaking on 'Enabling cybersmart kids in the covid era' and beyond!

She is the Convener of @safety_ng a member of @she_secures and CSEAN 😀

The Covid-19 pandemic led to a lot of eLearning; which exposed more kids to the internet and mobile devices.

However, many of them were not adequately prepared to access the internet.

She stresses the need to change kids from digital natives to digital citizens.

Digital citizenship enlightens kids on internet safety, data privacy, maintaining good digital footprint and reputation, self-image, copyright, and other relevant skills.

Enlightening kids on online safety is very important because they are exposed to several threats including;
Grooming (predators & paedophiles)
Bullying
Malware
Inappropriate content
Identity theft
Sexual harassment, and so on.

Even gaming sites can be abused by groomers or social media by catfishes.

To curbs this, parents must create an atmosphere of trust at home. This enables kids to open up about their experiences online.
Parental control features are useful but always explain why.

Kids most be taught how to create strong passwords, protect privacy online, guard against common threats & malware.

They must understand that the internet never forgets and so they mind what they share. Digital footprint is permanent.

Citing works used in research is also key!

Teachers and parents (adults) spend a lot of time with kids, and the onus is on us to enlighten them so they use these devices securely.

We are all responsible for their safety as we seek to make them cybersmart for today and everyday.

Our last speaker @Nobel_Oche will be covering 'Cyber Attacks Targeting SMEs' with a focus on how they can protect themselves.

He is the Digital Security Manager at @safeonline_NG

He broadly defines cyber attacks as anything that prevents business technologies from performing as they ought to.

Because of the amount of cyber attacks today, it is important to learn how to stay ahead of the enemy.

Speaking on the high success rate of phishing attacks, he cites @adeboyeBGO on the need to have the right attitude to cyber security, as it is a social engineering attack - also known as people hacking.

It is also low cost which makes it favourable to attackers.

Another top concern is poor Configuration. Technical know-how is required to properly configure systems, and many SMEs may not have the experts.

Next, Insider threats - malicious activities carried out by individuals with access to a business.

E-commerce sites are targeted using price manipulation attacks.

Due to an injection and other flaws, an attacker may temper with the price and make the customer pay more or less than they are supposed to.

Here are a few approaches to good security:

+ Develop cyber security goals & plan
+ Organise assessments, drills & trainings
+ Build a security culture
+ Develop relevant security policies

Consulting a security professional will greatly help in achieving these.

He strongly encourages employees and managers to take advantage of free courses and trainings in cybersecurity, citing CSEAN 😏 @nogofallmaga and @safeonline_NG as regular providers of these services.

Employee and user education is very vital to internet safety.
