They wouldn’t let people protest, kept blocking the march, then sent in the National Guard with hundreds of cops. Who is escalating this? Because it’s not the protesters.
Last night governor Kate Brown deployed the National Guard as protesters attempted to march. Once again in Portland, antifascist activists kept getting blocked for trying to practice their constitutional rights. Police and NG moved in formation together and injured many people
Police pushed us down to the ground a lot, made an arrest, and pushed press back a block away from what was happening. There were at least 10 arrests but this one was the only one I was able to *not see*
75 year old vet who served in Vietnam faces off with a line of police from the unified command and national guard as he confronts them with some really powerful words after they push him face down to the ground.
Because 300 officers from the unified command wasn’t enough. Yes, it’s maybe an exaggeration, but there were a LOT of police on foot and in vehicles. There were so many kettles that happened it took us hours to be able to leave because of how far they pushed us. There were also
National Guard protecting the United States courthouse in downtown Portland.
“We protect people, they protect property.”
It’s wild really, the group was not that large, there was absolutely nothing that was going on that was harmful to anyone or put anyone in dangerous. No one was hurting people... I just don’t understand. I mean I do, trust me I do, it’s
all just extremely frustrating. I get frustrated with myself too for the de-sensitivity. The fascism and continuous daily escalation of authoritarianism is not lost on me, I’ve just become so fucking numb to a lot of it because of how normalized this all is and has become. I also
fear for the outcome of the election. It’s going to be bad either way, but is it bad my biggest fear I think is the complacency from liberals if Biden wins 🥺 also- can we talk about what went down with the March & “accidental” wrong turn to get to waterfront? I have my own 🤔
Anywhere from 2-500 protestors in bloc are currently climbing over and in some cases under different fences and gates to get inside of the zoo. A wave of nostalgia washes over me as i hear chants of “our fence!”
I’m hearing that the zoo DA will need to be extremely strategic because of the way the property is set up and how the animals are categorized. Since we’ll be split into groups please add any updates and news to this thread so we don’t miss any information. Hold while we have a
There are a LOT of people who showed up. Currently marching
Very large group here from Seattle to show solidarity for Kevin Peterson JR. Crowd is currently chanting “ACAB! All cops are bastards!” With a strong drum line
We approached a line of cops in their vehicles as we were marching. The crowd halted and officers announced that the bridge was closed. (It isn’t actually closed, they’re just fascists, allegedly)
Imagine attending a vigil for someone to have it be disrespectfully crashed by right wingers excited to show off their racism & hate. Tonight, that’s the unfortunate reality for Kevin Peterson Jr.’s family and friends as they try to mourn his death at tonight’s vigil in Vancouver
There are many heavily armed citizens including on the rooftops of local business
Right wingers have brought a tank to the vigil. The disrespect is unreal. It’s disgusting
You don’t get to avoid accountability by saying you’re nonpolitical & nonpartisan. Your post made it political. Congratulating ACB is compliance with white supremacy & misogyny. Just because she is a woman does not mean she is any less of a monster.
“We are here to lift up girls & women” start by taking a stand for what’s right, speaking up about it & standing behind it & backing it up. Educate the youth. Encourage the youth to speak up & take a stand and do what’s right. Don’t congratulate someone who will set us all back.
The response is even worse than the original tweet. The appointment of ACB is setting back FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS for trans folks, women, minorities... SO MANY PEOPLE. Instead of standing up for them & setting a good example you chose to
Last night, Indigenous community members from Six Nations in Ontario, Canada dug up a highway at 1492 Land Back Lane. This land is being threatened by capitalistic development even though it is not rightfully theirs to build on. Earlier in the week activists were attacked with
“less than lethal” munitions and had assault rifles pointed at them after they were defending their land from a camp sweep, the LEO response resulted in officers being pushed out of the area and met with a volley of projectiles and police vehicles with smashed windows.
After this happened, hundreds from the community joined the occupation to protect their land with bodies as well as surround it with burning barricades to help keep out any law enforcement officers.
