1-The execution of a champion athlete, #NavidAfkari, by the Islamic Republic of Iran has shocked the world. As mentioned by @TValioghli, former member of Iran’s national swimming team, she’s seen several of her athlete friends executed by the regime.
2-The purge of Iranian sports began with the arrest of Ali Hojat Kashani, head of Physical Education Dept. He was arrested for the crime of holding 1974 Asian Games in Iran & encouraging sports, which was was seen as "corrupting" young people. He was summarily tried & executed
3-Then, revolutionaries set their sights on Nader Jahanbani, Iran’s equestrian champion and a jet pilot. He was also the head of the Iranian Physical Education Organization until 1978. After a show trial where revolutionaries couldn’t find any evidence of crime, he was executed
4-More executions followed suit. Bahman Nasim, swimmer & water polo player of the Iranian national team, was executed in 1979.
Dariush Dehghani, boxer of the Iranian national team and Ali Asghar Manouchehri, the long jump champion of the Iranian army were also executed
5-Mahbubeh Parcham Kashani, Iran's gymnastics champion, served as an international gymnastics judge at the 1972 Munich Olympics. She was arrested for being a member of leftist group “Rah-e Kargar” in 1982 & hanged in the same year. She was 29 years old and her son was only 2.
6-Between 1988-89, the regime executed thousands of political prisoners, among them athletes too. Families of many of these victims are still looking for justice as their loves ones were swiftly killed in show trials. These killings are now considered “crimes against humanity”
7-One of these victims was Foruzan Abdi, a member of the Iran's volleyball team. She was arrested in 1981 at 23 on charges of supporting the opposition group, MEK & was sentenced to 5 years. Even after serving her sentence, she was hanged in 1988 after refusing to confess on TV.
8-And the list of executed athletes goes on. More details in this article:
1-Today, I’m heartbroken. We had applied to the appeals court to appeal my brother’s 8-year sentence. Despite our efforts, the appeals court in Iran is adamant about my brother’s sentence. All because he’s related to me. My innocent brother is in jail due to my activism abroad
2-The regime alleges that my brother, Alireza Alinejad, is in jail because of “campaigning against the regime”. The same regime that wanted to take its revenge from the Americans but ended up only being capable of shooting down a civilian airline filled with innocent Iranians.
3-The same regime that did not hesitate to kill more than 1500 protesters during November 2019’s #IranProtests, but has categorically refused to try any of the killers.
1-We've launched a new campaign: #United4Navid. Gold-medal athletes from Iran’s national teams join human rights activists. We’re calling on international sporting federations & Olympic Committee to suspend Islamic Republic of Iran from sporting events for killing #NavidAfkari
2-Sardar Pashaei is a former wrestling coach from Iran’s National Team & gold medal. As a coach, he helped many athletes obtain gold medals in international events. He explains why the Islamic Republic of Iran must be suspended from international tournaments #United4Navid
3-Shirin Ebadi is a human rights activist, university professor and writer. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for her work in human rights.

1-Imagine, you wake up one day to find out that there're posters, a Twitter storm, & threats by officials of Islamic Republic of Iran calling for your kidnapping. How would you feel? I’ll show how this regime uses assassination& hostage diplomacy to silence us
2-Do you know why these intimidation campaign started against me? Last Saturday, Islamic Republic said they'd kidnapped an Iranian-American dissident Jamshid Sharmahd, while he was in Tajikistan & showed his pictures in blindfolds. This act provoked them to attack me.
3-Not only the Twitter Storm of Iranian cyber army, but also posters made by official newspapers of the Iranian National Television wrote: “Masih be ready! You’re the next to be kidnapped”
1-#Islamic_Republic_is_not_my_choice, because it executes and assassinates its opponents. The Islamic Republic is only second to China in the number of executions and has the highest number of executions per capita.
2-#Islamic_Republic_is_not_my_choice. it's a regime taking people hostage. It sentences human rights campaigners & women's rights activists like Nasrin Sotoudeh, Narges Mohammadi, Saba Kord-Afshari, Raheleh Ahmadi, Yasaman Aryani,Monireh Arabshahi. To this list add my own brother
3-#Islamic_Republic_is_not_my_choice, as it tortures prisoners.Political prisoners like Maziar Ebrahimi, Saeed Malekpour, & many others were brutally tortured for months before they confessed.Iranian-Canadian journalist Zahra Kazemi & blogger Satar Beheshti were tortured to death
Lawyers representing my brother Alireza, say the 8-year prison sentence was a vendetta to punish me. They vow to appeal. Not one publication inside Iran published this complaint or any reference to the trial. Here are the main points Thread⬇️⬇️⬇️ kaleme.com/1399/04/28/klm……
1-The Islamic Republic of Iran's judiciary has abandoned any pretense of justice and has become a tool of oppression, the lawyers say. No evidence was presented of any political activity by Alireza. @vakilroaya
2-The Islamic Republic of Iran tolerates female Hezbollah supporters who don't wear hijab but is conducting a war against Iranian women who oppose compulsory hijab. This is another level of hypocrisy.
