Moreover, the PA GOP made sure that the first ballots cast would be the last counted to help create the false narrative that Trump's lead was being taken from him and allow Trump to claim fraud and 'stolen' election.
Yes.

Also, people not paying close attention simply believe the false narrative: Trump was winning, and then late arriving (questionable) ballots made the difference.

Trump writes the script and manipulates everyone into playing their parts.
The Democrats voting largely early and absentee created a stressful few days waiting for the counting (because they were counted last) but it helped save us.

The crazies had no incentive to attack and shut down polling places because Democrats had already voted.
Also, absentee increases turnout. The ballots take longer to prepare for counting (they have to be removed from envelopes, many need "curing") but they have so many advantages, including a clear paper trail.

I hope absentee is the wave of the future.

See my Washington Post piece from September (link in next tweet) and my FAQs (but the Post piece may be more recent.

It's part of the Strongman Con I've talked about elsewhere.

I'll get you a link for that one.

On the bright side . . . they DID save the ballots.
Anyone wanna hear my ballots-in-the-microwave election story?

Nah, not on a nailbiter evening. Another time.

Unless you really want me to distract you with a story.
You asked for it.

While in law school, I attended a lecture from a visiting elections lawyer. Basically he was there to tell us what it’s like to be an election lawyer.

He told us a story. . .

That was a few decades ago, so my memory may be fuzzy.

The lawsuit was a loser. The Republican petitioners were just trying to make voting harder.

That’s the entire Republican 2020 election strategy.

Watch it fail.
The blame falls squarely on the dirty GOP tactics, but does overreaction play a part? People sent out five-star alarms over a frivolous lawsuit: "The GOP judge will allow it! The Supreme Court will allow it!" Voters got scared. Officials got spooked.
When I said the tactics would fail, I meant that this will backfire on the GOP.

Voters do not like seeing a party trying to suppress their votes.

Voters are determined.

It may take another few cycles in Texas, but Texas voters will have the final word.

The fight is still on in Federal Court.

Slim chance that the US Supreme Court would allow a federal district court to overturn a question of Texas state voting law as determined by local TX officials including members of the state legislature, and the Texas Supreme Court.
Here's the thing: This federal district petition wasn't brought by the Texas GOP. It was brought by individuals.

In fact, local reporting says that the Texas GOP helped design the drive-through voting locations.

Here's what I figure . . .
Remember when Trump said that if we “get rid of ballots” there won’t be a transition of power?
nymag.com/intelligencer/…

Looks like a few Republicans took that to heart. But they're not stopping with absentee ballots.

They want to get rid of all ballots from Dem areas🤦‍♀️

Saved by the Nineteenth Amendment.

And the Fourteenth, and the Fifteenth.

. . . Ok, OKAAY. Saved by the AMENDMENTS.

You can see why some people (I won't name names) are in love with the 1787 version of the Constitution.

It would have been a lot closer.

If it was only up to the men, Biden would still be ahead, but STILL.

Actually women are saving the day.
Reactionaries like the 2nd Amendment and the 10th Amendment.
They also like to distort the First.

Some of the most important phrases in the Constitution can be found in the Fourteenth Amendment.

They include:
Due process.
Equal protection of the laws.

I want to tone down my statements about this case.

Nobody ever knows for sure what a court will do. I've seen courts make some very bad rulings.

This case should get tossed out quickly, and I expect if this court goes off the rails, an appellate court will overturn.

1/
It should get tossed out because this form of voting has already been found to be legal by courts, and it is too late to bring this lawsuit.

Even Kavanaugh said that rules can't be changed too close to an election. Obviously they shouldn't be changed after people vote.

2/
This is particularly true if voters voted according to the rules that were in place at the time.

My takeaway from this is that Republicans are terrified by the way they know people are voting.

In the end, these tactics don't work.
