Some early translations of the Dao De Jing into European languages
1) G Pauthier, 1838 (Latin and French)
"Le Tao-Te-King ou le livre revere de la raison supreme et de la vertu"
books.google.com/books?id=aeNVA…
2/ : Matthew Raper, (1788)

Liber Sinicus Tao te kim inscriptus
freedomcircle.com/source/dao-de-…
Said to be the earliest translation into any European language (Latin). It is in manuscript, and I have not been able to find any copies of it online except this
It also seems the above image (taken from wikimedia) has been doctored: the chinese characters seem to be modern digital fonts superimposed on the mss.

Stanislas Julien (1842)
Tao Te King. Le livre De La Voie Et De La Vertu .
Into French. First significant European translation.
books.google.com/books?id=Ll5TA…
Herbert A Giles (~1885~1886)
"The remains of Lao Tzu, re translated"
books.google.com/books?id=n7hAA…
Published in an academic journal about China.

The next article, incidentally, is about the I ching/ Yijing
Reinhold von Plaenckner (1870)
Lao-tse Tao-te-king. Der Weg zur Tugend.

0a/ I shall now tweet the translation of this sutra, found on this site eaa.fas.harvard.edu/sutra-epidemic
"translated by XX", a PHD candidate in Chinese buddhism.
The translation is fairly accurate, save in one part, about tweet No. 10, where the translator [and I] have doubts
0b/ The chinese text, BTW is from tripitaka.cbeta.org/X02n0193_001

一時佛遊王舍城竹林精舍與四部弟子大眾俱會為說經法
At one time, the Buddha travelled to Bamboo Grove Monastery in Rājagṛha in order to preach the Dharma before a great number of disciples of the four assemblies who had gathered.

This is a rather interesting chart:

> Sirius on the descendant
> Regulus on the 8th Placidus house cusp
The renaissance astrologer Bonatti gave several lots or parts, that were to be used for the chart a moment a ruler was proclaimed. I think it would be apt for them to be used here
In any case, the simplest of this lots is calculated thus:
(15 Leo- sun)+(Moon)
The lot is hence at about 4 Taurus 13.
Interestingly enough, the Moon, one of the planets used for this lot, is almost exactly square it. Bonatti considers this to emphasise the lot.

0/ In this thread I will translate a section of an edition of the 三世書- Book of the Three Fates, specificaly a set of tables of simple natal delineations. Image
1/ First a bit of background. the 三世書, Sanshishu, "book of Three Fates" is a term given to a family of more-or-less related divinatory texts. They are widely distributed across the Chinese speaking world.
2/ Similar books have been published for some time. here is a thread discussing an edition form 1788, currently at SOAS.

The Notorious "Golden Bough" of Frazer yet has some interesting bits. Consider this section on Malagasy astrological remedial magic:
bartleby.com/196/pages/page…
It is a pity we do not hear very much about Malagasy astrology today. Has there been more recent research? Image
Another, <doubtful?> example

"The computer made old forms of astrological texts develop too. The @hnycmb_co made almanacs that users could customise to their own nativity and timezone, an astrological "technology of the self"...
"Despite their thoroughly modern form, these almanacs embodied ancient techniques, most notably hellenistic astrological methods, which were popularized in the two decades prior by new translations...
"But there perhaps the most extraordinary of the astrological productions of the internet age was costar. Perhaps the acme of postmodern popular astrology, it provided a constant 24/7 newsfeed of astrological transits, that most distincitve of postmodern texts...

Thus have I heard, At one time the Bhagavan was in Ocean Dragon King's palace, along with one thousand two hundred and fifty great monks, and many Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas.

At that time, Sagara the dragon king arose from his seat, went ahead, bowed to the feet of the Buddha, & said: "World-Honored One, is it possible to accept & uphold a few Dharmas but gain a lot of blessings?"
