The "death camps" won't materialize, so that kind of nonsense attends to itself. And sometimes labels are used to discount and sometimes to illuminate. There's a reason we don't tell a child a hot stove is a pillow. That said, let me say this: I will absolutely support your --
-- point of view. You only have to do one thing. See, it's very easy to come in here, and suggest compassion for those who have not shown it themselves. It's for the most part a friendly room. It's also a safer room. So I will back your position 100% if you are willing --
-- to take this into the *other* room...to go into the right wing chatrooms and twitter feeds and say, in essence, yes, all you who deliberately didn't wear masks and helped kill tens of thousands of innocent people, you who supported caging children, scapegoating immigrants --
-- harassing members of the LGBTQ crowd, you who pointed guns at peaceful protesters, who carried tiki torches under Nazi banners, and rode around with Confederate flags while you rammed cars to show your displeasure with the campaign...you who have so thoroughly convinced --
-- yourselves that death camps are coming for you because you built them for others so that *must* be what the other side is thinking, you who spit on the faces of store owners who asked only that you wear a mask for their protection...to all of you, we hold out the olive --
-- branch of comity and friendship because we know that you're afraid, most of it fear of things that are never going to happen, like those death camps...but yes, you're afraid...afraid that there may come a time when someone in your family comes out as gay or transgender --
-- afraid that there may come a time when you can't do to women and minorities whatever you like, afraid that white folks may not be at the front of the line anymore, afraid that there may be legislation by people you hate -- because really, that's the core of it, hate --
-- you supported Trump and those like him because they struck out at the people you hate. You didn't really care about things like pro-life or justice, you just wanted someone out there who would keep hitting the people you hate. It's really that simple. And you're not --
-- getting your way now, for the first time in four years, and that makes you afraid, and we understand that. So yes, despite *all* of that, we are willing to embrace, to discuss, to be adults and be fair and proper and coddle and forgive...we ask only one thing in return.
And this is the moment, Jan, when you tell them that all they have to do is say "we were wrong to do those things, and we apologize." That is the beginning. That is where it starts because it *cannot* start any other way. Go into their feeds and chat rooms, rather than the --
-- relative safety of this one, and ask that of them.

Let me know what happens next.

If this request succeeds and the world turns, I will back your plea for compassion 100%.

But not before.

Biden won. Maybe the Senate soon. Now do something with it. Obama came in with a mandate but "reached across the aisle" and Mitch rope-a-doped them for six out of eight years. Let's see some real action, hearings with teeth, justice, and progressive legislation. Use it or lose it
There will be those who now say, "We need to put the past behind us and move on as a country rather than relitigate the past. Trump's beaten. Besides, we'll need some of his voters next time around so we don't want to inflame them. We need to look to the future."
We cannot look to the future unless we have addressed the past, cannot know where we're going unless we know where we stand, and what we stand *for*. We beat the man but it's the policies that he supported, and which buoyed him, that now must be exposed and disassembled.

When the virus has been beaten
And I can move around with ease,
I’ll try to find my passport
So I can travel as I please.
I’ll shop in France
And try on pants
Too young to match my style
And with effort and a prison file
(A process that might take a while
I know that I can make them fit
Unless of course I have to sit.
I’ll try new sports
I’ll ride a horse
Assuming he will let me.
I’ll buy new toys
And make some noise
So no one will forget me.
I’ll visit London, Spain and Rome
And when at last I circle home
I’ll contentedly remove my shoes
And catch up on the evening news:
An asteroid is approaching Earth
Our only hope is Colin Firth
There’s volcanoes and tsunamis
A strange shortage of salamis
An alien invasion
A leprosy contagion

It's so hard seeing people now just pretending as though the Covid situation is over. But I also understand it. The human brain and body weren't meant to handle this much stress for this long. Stress activates the fight versus flight mechanism, and there's nothing to fight --
-- so after a while flight kicks in and we run from thinking about the problem. And there's also the issue of trauma, which happens *after* a given event. Trauma is how we process a stressful or painful situation. But we've been caught in that stressful situation now for --
-- months, and there's been no relief during which we could process that, and address the trauma, so we're getting it from both sides, the current tension *and* the brain's desperate need to process the trauma and put it behind us, which it can't do while it's all ongoing --

Thank you for those generous words. I wish that the show was not as relevant as it seems to be today, that the themes we explored would, by now, be considered out of date and passe, but it seems that this is not to be our reality, at least for the present moment. In general --
-- I think one can rarely go wrong in looking to the patterns of history to repeat themselves, an assumption that underscored B5 and landed us here...but there is another side to this pattern. The Black Death led directly to the Renaissance; the repressive 50s summoned a --
-- counter-reaction in the more liberal 60s. But by the same token, the awfulness of WW1 and the Great Depression gave us Fascists and Nazis. A similar moment awaits us. Once this is over -- and it will be, once a vaccine is delivered -- the world will need a moment to --

A (far too) long thread concerning ideas/stories, why people shouldn’t send them to professional writers, and why they need to either accept that stipulation or find other accounts to follow.

To speak from my experience: I’ve been interacting with fans online for almost thirty--
--years, since the days of 28.8 modems and BBSs. These have been daily conversations, not just when there’s something to promote. The jmsnews system has something like 88,000 messages I’ve posted over the years. Like @neilhimself, I put in hours every single day corresponding--
--with folks, time that could be used to create our own stories, movies, shows and the like. But we make that time because we are fans ourselves, and we want to give back, knowing how much it would have meant to us if some of the writers we followed were this freely accessible.--

While we are all free to interpret stories to our heart's content...that is the *purpose* of art...to make a declarative statement that the film *is* "about Christian democracy" is a different thing entirely and implies intent. Having worked closely with the film-makers for...
...nearly two years while making a series based on the film, discussing the story and the intent behind it repeatedly and exhaustively, on an almost daily basis, I can say categorically that this was never, ever the intent, in any way, manner, shape or form....
...no matter how much one may want to recast that intent to further one's own personal views or goals. I could go through all the points raised to show how the meaning was actually 180-degrees the opposite of what you suggest, but that goes to argumentation not intent...
