How to Get a Killer Testimonial.

Social proof is the most capable salesman out there.

But how to let others speak for you?

// A THREAD //
1. What is a testimonial?

Usually, we talk about one paragraph of flattering text your client writes about your work.

The goal is to grasp the strengths of the professional, type, and scope of work done.

The client signs it with his name, position contact, and photo.
2. What defines a good testimonial?

It' neither too long nor too short.

It's concrete. The type and scope of work should be recognizable from it.

It's written in simple English without complicated/niche-specific words.
3. When to ask for a testimonial?

Ask for the testimonial once the work is done and your client is happy or even thrilled.

Call him to say thanks, or write a short email, and ask if (s)he wouldn't write a short testimonial, that you could use as a reference.
Hack #1: Offer something in return.

Writing a testimonial takes time. And the person bets his name on you.

It's a big thing.

So if you can

- Offer short consultation
- Provide a short free maintenance checklist
- Send a small gift or bottle of wine

do it.
Hack #2: Edit it.

Your clients are hearty, honest people but usually they aren't copywriters.

Don't be afraid to rewrite the testimonial.

Don't add there anything.

Just make it simpler, cleaner, and straight.

Ofc ask for the client's approval.
Hack #3: Use the 3 step Testimonial Formula

If you ask your client to give you a testimonial ask them to answer these three questions:

1. How was it before your collaboration?
2. How it is after your collaboration?
3. What would (s)he tell to your future possible client?
Hack #3: Addon.

By doing this you will get an extremely powerful reference.

You will probably have to edit it, but the power is immense.

@Backlinko taught me this and I use it ever since with great results.
Hack #4: Don't force it.

You won't get the reference from EVERY project.

And it's ok.

Sometimes:

- you don't deliver the best result imaginable.
- the client HATES giving testimonials.
- the assignment is wrong and the client then doesn't love the result.

Ask, don't force.
Hack #5: Get the full name, photo, and contact.

"I loved the cooperation, many thanks!" Jack. H.

Is it trustworthy?

It's better than nothing but not by much...

If it's possible, get client's:

- photo
- name
- contact

and the testimonial gets much more powerful.
Hack #6: If you work with colleagues ask them for the recommendation as well.

If you're a freelancer you probably work with other pros as well.

If you liked the collaboration give them a testimonial after the work is done.

They will reciprocate quite often.
Hack #6: Addon:

And if not, just ask them if they could give you feedback.

If the feedback is negative you can use it to get better.

If the feedback is positive you can ask them to use it as a testimonial.

You win both ways.
Bonus tip: Use your testimonials.

Most people but the testimonial on their website and that's it.

But you can use it in your:

- offers to clients
- as a post on social sites
- as a part of your newsletter

Once you have the testimonial, make sure you get the best out of it.

Design Your Freedom: As a Programmable Robot

You can be programmed.

Why and How to take advantage of this?

// A THREAD //
1. You have to believe you're more a character in the game than a snowflake.

Let's take The Sims.

Imagine you're both the player and the character in the game itself.

Character does and feels, but the player can influence what...

This is immensely powerful.
2. It's an extremely powerful idea.

@kanyewest raps that we're the GTA characters.

@ScottAdamsSays writes about how practical is to treat ourselves as a programmable moist robot.

@ComedicBizman rarely sends a letter, which wouldn't be based on this idea...

Why?

Processes are your secret weapon.

Whether you want to improve your personal productivity or business efficiency.

Processes are the way.

//THREAD//
What is the process?

The (linear) process is a sequence of steps you have to take to get the wanted result.

e.g. The process of brushing your teeth consist of:

1. Going to the bathroom
2. Applying toothpaste
3. Brushing you teeth for 5 minutes

Simple.
Why to even care about some processes?

1. Following a process you make the mistake just once, then you update the processes and avoid it next time (it's antifragile)

2, It will free your brain capacity

3. You can outsource easily as you have the exact steps defined

Ten months ago, I've started learning about making websites.

Today, I work full-time as a freelance web designer.

I've learned a ton and want to share the knowledge.

So you can start making beautiful landing pages and make an easy $1000 per month.

// A THREAD //
The internet is full of terrible landing pages.

Owners of those lose hundreds of $.

Every. Single. Minute.

Solution?

Someone who will offer them a better landing page for a fraction of what it will save them (often in the first month).

That someone maybe you.
What will you learn?

- How to create a working landing page from scratch
- Design basics
- How to do outreach and communicate with clients

We will use Elementor+ (drag and drop editor) so no coding skills are needed!

If you are a website designer you are as good as your tools are

Here're some tools I find the most impactful

// A THREAD // Image
Miro is a whiteboard with many relly awesome templates.

I use it for:

1. Filling a lean canvas with the client before we start to do anything
2. We have workflows there, so we know what steps to take when designing a web

Link: miro.com
InVision is whiteboard as well.

I use it for:

1. Creating mood boards
2. Drawing the wireframes
3. Creating the structure (mobile and desktop)

PS. The purpose is similar to Miro so you can stick to whatever suits you better. I use both.

It's a Game of Numbers

You don't have to be

- most creative
- most original
- super skilled
- lucky

to make a $2000/month online

You just need to understand the power of math.

// A THREAD //
Say, you start making websites (like me).

It takes you one month to learn the basics and get first reference from a friend who you made websites for free.

Then you start to outreach.

You target cleaning companies and propose a website for $600 ( very cheap)
You are terrible at closing and people don't trust you as you are new

Fortunately, there is still some math to do...

You start to outreach to 15 clients a day first thing in the morning (2 hours)

That's 450 clients/month

Let's say just 10% of them are interested

3 tools that will make you a better copywriter.

Actually much better.

Fast.

// A THREAD //
The Hemingway App

Mr. Hemingway said:
“Imagine that you take every word from a place where a word costs you $1”

Hemingway app will help you to get rid of useless fluff.

I use it for the first round of editing and couldn't recommend it more.

2. Grammarly

Make sure there are no typos in your copy.

Grammarly is a super user-friendly way how to do that.

There is also a chrome extension that allows you to review your texts (tweets included) as you write them.
