1/10 The leadership of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (#CNRP) and its millions of members and supporters extend warmest congratulations to the American people who, in massive numbers, have freely and democratically chosen their leaders at local, state and federal level.
2/ We have witnessed and admired how millions of Americans, in the largest turnout in over a century, have patiently participated in the long process.
3/ Democracy in the US is an inspiration to Cambodians all over the world. The CNRP extends most sincere congratulations to President-elect @JoeBiden and Vice President-elect @KamalaHarris.
4/ We are convinced that their message of unity, togetherness and openness for all American citizens will make the United States stronger and more powerful, both at home and abroad.
5/ The CNRP reiterates that the United States is an honest and transparent partner of Cambodia. We share the same values of freedom, tolerance, openness, respect for every opinion and every citizen and the economic empowerment of all – values laid down in Cambodia's constitution.
6/ The CNRP greatly appreciates everything US administrations have done for Cambodia in the past. We are determined to continue working with the administration freely chosen by the American people, and their representatives in Congress, to promote our mutual national interests.
7/ It is only through cooperation based on open, transparent dialogue and shared values that our common interests will be advanced.
8/ Cambodians and the CNRP continue to rely on the US support in ensuring that the 1991 Paris Peace Accords and every article of the Cambodian Constitution is fully respected and implemented, and that Cambodia’s military neutrality is maintained.
9/ The role of the US in ensuring justice is served is critical. We underline that those responsible for violating the rights of Cambodian citizens must face international justice. Cambodian institutions including the judiciary serve only the ruling few.
10/10 The CNRP will never give up the struggle for genuine democracy in #Cambodia. Emboldened by the perseverance of our people and empowered by the resolve of our international partners, we will continue our struggle to offer Cambodians the opportunity to choose their leaders.
1/4 On behalf of Cambodian democrats I would like to express my solidarity with Thai democrats who are protesting against the forced disappearance of Mr. Wanchalearm Satsaksit, abducted in Phnom Penh June 4.
2/4 This abduction, carried out in broad daylight, is an act of state terrorism in which Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen specializes and which has cost the lives of countless Cambodian democrats.
3/4 The abduction is a way for Hun Sen to thank the Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for preventing me, as the only Cambodian opposition leader at liberty, from returning to Cambodia via Thailand as planned on November 9, 2019.
1/5 To eliminate dangers associated with possible "false positive" results produced by any faulty serological test, I have proposed a two-step protocol for the issuing of immunity passports. @WHO#SamRainsy who.int/news-room/comm…
2/5 The first step involves a virological test to establish whether the applicant currently has COVID-19. A positive result means that no immunity passport would be granted to the infected person and the "false positive" issue would become irrelevant. @WHO#SamRainsy
3/5 If the candidate tests negative for COVID-19, they then proceed to the next stage, which is a serological test to establish the presence of antibodies. @WHO#SamRainsy
1/4 The abduction in Phnom Penh on June 4 of Thai political activist Wanchalearm Satsaksit bears the fingerprints of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen who is an expert in such acts of state terrorism.
2/4 As leader of the Cambodian opposition, I have myself been the target of several attacks which have cost dozens of my colleagues and sympathizers their lives.
3/4 More recently, Hun Sen has publicly threatened to have me abducted while in exile abroad. I have informed the French police of Hun Sen’s criminal intentions. It’s possible that the French authorities have dissuaded the brutal dictator from carrying out his threat.
1/4 Informed observers are predicting that #Cambodia’s banks may collapse, especially microfinance institutions, for three reasons.
First: almost 3 million small borrowers can no longer repay their debts after having lost their jobs and/or their revenues in the current economic crisis.
2/4 Second: A small number of large borrowers engaged in land speculation and whose loans have been used to buy land for resale to Chinese investors are now trapped: they can no longer repay their loans and are stuck with the land after the Chinese departed.
1/7 In a statement issued Sunday, the banned opposition CNRP told RFA that the outbreak has cost millions of Cambodians their jobs and incomes, specifically highlighting the plight faced by those indebted to lenders. #Cambodia#debt#SamRainsy rfa.org/english/news/c…
2/7 “The most serious issue is that people are facing a debt crisis,” the statement read, adding that based on research by nongovernmental organizations, some 2.5 million people owe money that they cannot repay.
3/7 “The CNRP has reiterated its appeal to the Phnom Penh government to put in place strict measures to delay or suspend the payment of debts to microfinance institutions or banks for at least three months and to protect properties from confiscation.”
1/6 In Gavroche on 3 May I envisaged a "predictable overcoming of the reservations on the individual use of serological tests" to identify those who have had COVID-19 and to evaluate their immunity by testing for antibodies in their blood. bit.ly/2L7sNR6#SamRainsy
2/6 The WHO had warned that it’s "uncertain that the antibodies present at a given moment can give protection against a new infection by the same virus in the future”.
3/6 This warning opened a debate on the possibility of the same person recontracting the same virus within a relatively short period. Such a hypothesis on the absence of immunisation would lead to conclusions that would be both irrational and catastrophic.
