1/4 Informed observers are predicting that #Cambodia’s banks may collapse, especially microfinance institutions, for three reasons. 
First: almost 3 million small borrowers can no longer repay their debts after having lost their jobs and/or their revenues in the current economic crisis.
2/4 Second: A small number of large borrowers engaged in land speculation and whose loans have been used to buy land for resale to Chinese investors are now trapped: they can no longer repay their loans and are stuck with the land after the Chinese departed.
3/4 Third: Savers are starting to panic and want to withdraw their money. This is getting harder as the banks are short of liquidity because of the increase in unpaid debts. The forced freezing of deposits is creating mistrust which is pushing the banks towards bankruptcy.
4/4 Ordinary people are up to their eyeballs in debt and in despair in the face of the bank and microfinance demands. Hun Sen must stop listening to the false reports from those close to him, open his eyes and grasp the human misery that is unfolding. #SamRainsy
