Thread looking at the current lawsuits from @realDonaldTrump 👇👇👇

*Pennsylvania

1/ PA supreme court decision to allow mail-in ballots 3 days after election day i.e. mail-in ballots received by Friday 6th Nov can be counted. Trump campaign asking US Supreme Court to intervene.
2/ The Supreme Court twice declined to overrule deadline, but several conservative justices indicated that they might be willing to revisit the case.

Late mail-in ballots are currently being segregated from other ballots pending the legal challenge.
3/ However, a number of conservative surrogates are questioning if this is happening.

PA secretary of state stated on Nov 4th Wednesday that there are only “hundreds” of such votes.

4/ Nov 4th: Trump campaign lawsuit claiming observers were not able to “meaningfully” oversee the count, requesting for the count to be stopped.

pacourts.us/news-and-stati…
5/ Nov 5th: state appellate court issued order guaranteeing GOP ballot observers can watch the process within six feet. The order did not stop the count in Philadelphia.

abcnews.go.com/Politics/penns…
6/ Nov 4th: Trump campaign and RNC lawsuit to change the deadline for when mail-in voters with missing ID would need to provide that information from Nov. 12 to Nov. 9.

Nov 5th: Judge ordered segregation of these ballots pending this challenge.

forbes.com/sites/alisondu…
7/ Nov 4th: Pennsylvania Republican candidates and voters lawsuit regarding a late directive from the PA secretary of state to facilitate corrections (‘cure’) of defective ballots by voters in contravention of election law, and the fact it has only been applied in one county.
8/ Judge sceptical of GOP arguments at hearing on Nov 4th, and in any case, a relatively small number of ballots (fewer than 100) appear to have been affected.

politico.com/news/2020/11/0…
9/ Lawsuit filed by a Republican candidate: 29,000 ballots that needed to be reissued in Oct due to a printing error are subject of a legal challenge. Concerns regarding possible opportunities for fraud.
10/ Following a Federal court order, vote counting of 29,000 ballots delayed until after the state’s deadline to receive mail ballots for the 2020 election;

11/ Mistake made by a company that flew Trump flags at its HQ:
* Michigan

12/ Nov 4th: Trump campaign filed suit to halt votes until poll observers are allowed access

Case rejected by the judge on 5th Nov:

*Nevada

13/ Oct: Trump campaign has sued Clark County Registrar, challenging the process used to check signatures for mailed-in ballots that use AI software.
14/ Nov 2nd: Nevada supreme court denied Trump campaign effort to halt mail ballot processing and use of signature verification software in Clark County.

bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
15/ Trump campaign has stated they plan to file a lawsuit that will allege “at least 10,000 people voted in [Nevada], despite no longer living there,” as well as alleged instances of deceased voters reportedly casting ballots.

forbes.com/sites/alisondu…
16/ Nov 5th: Pair of election officials being sued by a voter, a media operative, and the campaigns for 2 Republican politicians. The lawsuit, resurrecting a similar claim made by Trump campaign that was dropped early in the day for improved observation rights.
17/ The aim to stop Clark County from using signature verification machines to check votes and require that all mail ballots be hand-checked before verification.

lasvegassun.com/news/2020/nov/…
*Georgia

18/ Nov 4th: GOP and Trump campaign filed a lawsuit over a small number of absentee ballots (53) in Savannah that were incorrectly included after the deadline against state election law.

Case rejected by the judge on 5th Nov:
wtoc.com/2020/11/04/ga-…
* Wisconsin

19/ Trump campaign has stated it plans to seek a recount.

20/ Re: Pennsylvania mail ballot extension challenge, conservative judges on Supreme Court have possibly left a pathway to dispute the PA extension for mail-in ballots, albeit they are also showing deference to voters' understanding of the law at the time they voted.
21/ Some commentators have recognised weaknesses of the voting processes in Pennsylvania: votes can only be counted on election day and poor/confusing advice.
22/ In terms of Trump’s accusations of “historic election interference from big media, big money, and big tech,” this just doesn’t stack up logically. Republicans are on track to win the Senate, and have regained 6 seats so far in the House (as at 0900 6/11/20).
23/ Further, all of the events that are being played out make sense and were forecast ahead of time by many observers.

fivethirtyeight.com/live-blog/2020…
24/ Trump’s campaign allegations of a lack of transparency at locations are refuted by officials:
- Election laws allow for observers.
ncsl.org/research/elect…

- Some jurisdictions in Pennsylvania are actually live-streaming the mail counts.
apnews.com/article/poll-w…
25/ Republican Philadelphia City Commissioner Al Schmidt pointed out people from both campaigns are watching the vote count: “They’re observing all of it.” He reiterated on CNN 6/11/20 that Republican observers have been allowed access since election day.

philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2020/11/05/phi…
26/ In Michigan, dispute centered on Detroit. 134 counting boards set up in the count location, and each party was allowed one poll watcher per board, according to City Clerk Janice Winfrey.

apnews.com/article/poll-w…
27/ The Trump campaign cases have focused on how close they are allowed to be and increasing the number of poll watchers allowed, not that they are being denied entry.

There have been allegations of intimidation from Trump poll watchers.
28/ Requests for recounts widely seen as being unlikely to have any real merit, unless the difference in votes is razor-thin. Many commentators have stated that such recounts only usually affect a couple of hundred votes.
29/ General view from CNN/PBS: evidence on the above is thin; impact on the results too small to affect the results. All the cases are relatively small scale, and currently, there have been no substantiated cases of fraud.
30/ Unlikely there are any viable cases that could affect the election. The scale of the win in the electoral college or the win in a particular state would be too large to account for any of the issues being raised by the Trump campaign.
31/ Albeit, if the election came down to Pennsylvania, and the result in Pennsylvania was close, then the issue of the allowance of postal votes by the 6th Nov could be crucial. However, even in this case, if Biden was ahead Trump may actually want these votes counted!
32/ Commentators state the intention is to stop counts at certain locations so protracted legal disputes can help muddy the waters on who has won and also sow confusion and distrust.
34 / Federal judge ordered the USPS to sweep processing facilities in a number of key states for unposted ballots by afternoon. Just before 5pm on election night, federal government attorneys representing USPS stated they would not abide by the order due to resource constraints.
35/ Despite claims that this could affect 300,000 votes. This comes as Washington Post declares this could have affected 150,000 ballots, and the number could grow.
36/ This comes on the back of Trump’s previous comments that he was seeking to undermine USPS to make mail-in voting harder.

theguardian.com/us-news/2020/a…
37/ Trump campaign filming mail-in ballot drop-offs and accused by PA AG of potential illegal voter intimidation nytimes.com/2020/10/22/us/…
38/ PA secretary of state contacted FBI regarding Trump campaign request for specific information on ballot security eu.ydr.com/story/news/202…
39/ History of Republican operative managing the poll-watching operation:
nbcphiladelphia.com/news/politics/…
41/ Other accusations of voter suppression across the country, particularly with the removal of black voters from the electoral rolls in Florida.

theguardian.com/us-news/2020/o…

politico.com/states/florida…
42/ Context, Republican efforts during 2000 Presidential Election to shut down recounts in Florida (specifically Miami-Dade county), referred to commonly as the Brook Brothers riot.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks_Br…
43/ Trump campaign claims up to circa 2200 GMT 5/11/20 (couldn’t keep up after that).

Lack of access to observe mail in vote counts:

48/ There is so much more...

Hope this is helpful.

The fall in the quality of real investigative journalism has been harmed by the economics of production + the competition being rewarded for low-quality partisan baiting.

We're in a post-truth era.

There is a high reward for spreading conspiracy on Twitter, particularly with right-wing voters.

There is a low time investment to credibility reward for fact-checking accusations:
- Facts spun
- Sources not trusted
- Ability to keep up with the speed of information
Trust has been eroded with right-wing voters due to the left bias of MSM and board control of social media giants.

Trump has perpetuated the problem with his FakeNews campaign which is baked in both truths and falsities. Confusion reigns and voters retreat to echo chambers.

Analysis of the US riots requires nuance:
- How another police murder sparked this
- Peaceful v violent protests
- Why violence happens
- Police engagement v batons/rubber bullets
- How MSM stoking flames
- Infiltration by groups such as Antifa

A big job for anyone who tries.
Looting is a great example, it is rightfully being condemned, but it is important to understand why it happens.

It happened in Hong Kong despite the world widely supporting those protests.

Why is the scale of looting in US riots so much higher?

asiatimes.com/2019/10/more-l…
While violence, riots, vehicle destruction and burning down of properties is awful. Again, violent uprisings have happened throughout history.

It is naive to ignore that change has come with violent uprisings, whatever you feel about them.

1/ While the lens has been on the Chinese coverup re: coronavirus, I have been researching a similar coverup and misinformation from Iran.

Big thanks to @AlinejadMasih's for her excellent presentation for the @hrf's Covidcon.

This probably should go in a wiki, will need help.
2/ Former health minister Hassan Ghazizadeh Hashemi posted on Instagram on March 22nd that he had warned the Iranian Health Ministry of the dangers of novel coronavirus in late December.

The post has now been removed.

1/ Let’s talk about Dash in Venezuela and why their stupid shitcoin is exploiting the country with propaganda.

The @Dashpay marketing team and bag holders will wax lyrical about how Dash is helping the people of Venezuela. They aren’t.
2/ Let’s break down the situation. Firstly Caracas is different from the provinces and in Caracas there is a very clear rich and poor divide.

In the provinces they have intermittent power, the people are super poor and can’t access basic supplies.
3/ In Caracas the East of the city, on the surface feels like any cosmopolitan city:
- Large billboards for Pepsi etc...
- Construction
- Nice cars (passed a garage selling Porches)

The West is propaganda town and more dangerous. There are vast slums which circle the city.
