Uhh, yeah they kinda do. They spent two years sabotaging progressive primary candidates and spent this year manufacturing consent for Biden. They manipulate the thoughts people think about power, and they can install whomever they wish.
Conceptual constructs like government and finance exist only because we all agree to pretend they're real. They're only ever as real as the collective agrees they are. The powerful understand this, and pour vast fortunes into manipulating what the collective believes.
You can call shenanigans on the official election results all you want, but all you're doing is protesting a Game of Thrones power struggle over which you have no control. You can't fight the machine using the tools the machine has offered you. Elections aren't for the people.
What does that even mean? Fight for which faction of the US oligarchy should control the White House? Neither of the candidates got there legitimately, and neither are there to represent the interests of ordinary human beings.
It is not a coincidence that the most powerful government on earth has the very worst election integrity in the entire western world. The elections have nothing to do with you. They are not there for you. Stop looking at them as solutions to your problems. salon.com/2016/04/15/ame…
They are. They're the unplugged video game controller you hand your little brother so he'll stop whining for a turn to play.
They are, yes. Just because Trump says it doesn't mean it's not true. If not for the mass-scale psychological domination of the plutocratic media, the people would have used their strength of numbers to force real changes a long time ago.
I have a new book out! Available in paperback, on Kindle, or you can download a PDF for five bucks and print it out yourself if you like. caitlinjohnstone.substack.com/p/my-new-book-…
Show Me An Old Rebel
Do not show me a young rebel,
whose eyes are bright
and whose tail is bushy.
Young rebels are fine and good,
but they are merely doing
what the young are meant to do.
Show me an old rebel.
One who keeps punching
when his hands are arthritic,
when her hair is white,
when his friends are all dead,
when her knees are shot,
when it hurts him to pee,
when her shoulders are so bad
that it would be much easier to punch down
than to punch up.
Well you'll be happy to know that the next US president and his crack team of ventriloquists are assembling a cabinet of mass murderers that's as diverse, inclusive and intersectional as America herself. politico.com/news/2020/11/0…
A new Politico report informs us that the heavy favorite to lead the US war machine into further imperial conquest as Secretary of "Defense" is a butcher of the fairer sex named Michele Flournoy, about whom @EverettMariamne reports the following:
"I think we're all breathing a lot easier knowing that the US government will now be run by grown-ups who murder people instead of emotionally stunted children who murder people." caitlinjohnstone.substack.com/p/us-murder-ma…
Joe Biden's inauguration as the 46th president of the United States is now all but certain.
[Forrest Gump voice:] And just like that, the Russians were gone.
The East Turkistan Islamic Movement is a murderous jihadist organization from Xinjiang. Xinjiang plays a crucial geostrategic role in China's Belt and Road Initiative, which threatens US unipolar domination. Declassifying them as a terrorist organization is about US imperialism.
Don't Fool Yourself: Your Biden Vote Was Not A "Vote Against Fascism"
The election is over. The lies that people on the true political left have been telling themselves in order to psych themselves out for a painful Biden vote must now be dispensed with. caitlinjohnstone.substack.com/p/dont-fool-yo…
Well the battle rages on, with Dems afraid Trump will remain in office by force (spoiler: he won't, he'll exit peacefully) and Republicans afraid Biden will enslave them to communism (spoiler: he won't, he'll enslave you to end-stage imperialist neoliberalism like everyone else).
Anxiety remains high, with mass media going out of its way to play up civil unrest fears as protests and counter-protests erupt across the country.
The only correct answer to the question of what went wrong for the Democrats is that the way the party raises money is incompatible with getting votes: they court wealthy donors who in exchange demand policies which hurt ordinary Americans. Ignore all answers besides this one.
It's not because of inadequate outreach to this or that demographic. It's not because of racism. It's not because of being too "woke". It's not because of the Electoral College or gerrymandering. It's because Democratic donors advance interests which hurt the Democratic base.
People simply are not going to support a party which does not advance their interests. If the Democratic Party were obtaining material benefits for people, they would dominate the US government. But that would mean taking things away from the donor class, so it's been a no-go.
