There are still too many unanswered questions about the Trump administration.

Education Sec. Betsy DeVos’ connections to for-profit college & charter schools raise questions about her management of the department as well as serious conflicts of interest.
americanoversight.org/open-questions…
We already uncovered emails showing that a top aide to DeVos was working closely with officials at a failing for-profit college corporation as two of its schools lost accreditation.
washingtonpost.com/education/2020…
The aide worked with those schools even as the schools misled students about their accreditation status and the Education Department continued to grant those students loans.
We’re now investigating how DeVos’s influenced her agency’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. We FOIA’d documents related to the dispersal of CARES Act funds and the department’s communications with the White House about Covid-19.

We’re also using Freedom of Information Act requests to look into whether the agency pushed to open in-person schooling before it was safe.

The @USNatArchives has asked the CIA for a report on Mike Pompeo’s personal email use in response to our complaint.

We obtained hundreds of pages of Pompeo’s personal emails from his time at CIA.

americanoversight.org/document/lette…
In October, we published nearly 400 pages of Pompeo’s personal emails from his time as CIA director that we obtained.

The records revealed a problematic amount of official business conducted over private email.
The Federal Records Act generally prohibits officials from using non-government electronic messaging accounts for agency business. Pompeo’s extensive personal email use while CIA director suggests that other records might have been unlawfully removed from agency custody.

NEW: We launched an investigation into actions by state legislators in Wisconsin and Arizona to promote the Trump campaign’s baseless allegations of widespread voter fraud.
americanoversight.org/american-overs…
Several Wisconsin and Arizona politicians have called for investigations in their respective states into the Trump campaign and the RNC’s claims of large-scale voting irregularities. There is no evidence to support these claims. Image
We submitted public records requests to these politicians’ offices seeking their communications with the Trump campaign, the White House, Trump lawyers, Senate Republicans, and anti-voter fraud groups including the Public Interest Legal Foundation. Image

NEW: The fight to preserve Trump administration records has begun. The day after the election, the National Archives asked the CIA for a report on Mike Pompeo’s personal email use as director, responding to a complaint we submitted.

We’ve launched an effort to ensure that Trump appointees don’t destroy or remove key documents on their way out the door in January — & we’re prepared to file litigation under the Freedom of Information Act or the Federal Records Act to preserve documents.

U.S. laws, including the Federal Records Act & the Presidential Records Act, require federal agencies & the White House to preserve most records & make their destruction illegal.

Our efforts to expose misconduct and abuse of power in the Trump administration have shed light on many issues.

We’re far from finished holding leaders accountable. Here’s what we’ve uncovered about the pandemic response & what we’re still investigating.
In September, we obtained a massive trove of documents from USPS that revealed a plan to mail masks to every American. The Washington Post reported the White House scrapped the plan.
americanoversight.org/document/usps-…
Documents we obtained also shed light on pressure from meatpacker Smithfield Foods to reopen processing plants despite rising coronavirus cases among workers and local health department orders.

Emily Murphy, a Trump political appointee at the GSA, has failed to sign a memo that would authorize President-elect Biden’s transition team to formally begin its work.

We have launched an investigation into GSA’s refusal to approve these transition resources.
We submitted two FOIA requests seeking to determine if the White House played any role in GSA's failure to comply with democratic norms. The requests ask for communications of Murphy, GSA’s general counsel, and more.

We also requested these officials’ email communications containing key terms related to the election or presidential transition.
