Parshat Chayei Sarah
Genesis 23:1–25:18

THERE ARE SOME INTERESTING POINTS IN THIS PARSHA THAT ARE NOT NOTICED ALL THAT OFTEN.
1)
If you want a traditional interpretation, it won’t be here. If you would like something that focuses on some less noticed items, read on.
2)
“Sarah dies at age 127 and is buried in the Machpelah Cave in Hebron, which Abraham purchases from Ephron the Hittite for four hundred shekels of silver”
3)
Four Thousand years ago, Avraham, a man from a business oriented culture, knew that purchasing land established true ownership, a claim to ownership that no one could take away no matter the circumstances.
4)
Today, a small Jewish Community is in Hebron. No other nation has as strong a claim to that land, to that city, as does the Jewish Nation. It is time that the claim is made in a more concrete manner — expanding the Jewish population, Jewish businesses, Jewish institutions...
5)
to a modern Jewish population of 250,000.

And

Abraham’s servant Eliezer is sent, laden with gifts, to Haran, to find a wife for Isaac. At the village well, Eliezer asks G‑d for a sign: when the maidens come to the well, he will ask for some water to drink;...
6)
the woman who will offer to give his camels to drink as well shall be the one destined for his master’s son.

Note that Avraham wanted his son married to someone from his ancestral culture, in Haran, which covered an area known today as South East Turkey,...
7)
not from Ur of the Chaldese (Southern Iraq today) where his immediate family had lived & where he was born. It is as if Torah is instructing us 4000 years later of the need to seek continuation of our own culture rather than to marry out,...
8)
a statement against intermarriage that might lead to the demise of our people.

When Avraham dies, he is buried in the Cave he purchased next to his first wife, Sarah, and he is buried by his sons, Isaac and Ishmael.
9)
And later, when they die, both Isaac and Ishamel are buried in the same place, in the land Avraham bought to be the possession of his descendants forever.
10)
This is particularly relevant today. Sometimes people decide who their enemies are and who their friends are based on the experience of only a limited period of time. The general belief is that Jews and Muslims are adversaries, that Israel and Arabs hate one another.
11)
We hear from all sorts of commentators, trying to fit the Biblical narrative to modern times, of how Isaac (Yitzchak) and Ismael are adversaries that can never be at peace.
12)
But this parsha can teach something a bit different. Yitzchak & Ismael may have had different approaches to life, & may have had conflicts, & may have resented one another for a variety of reasons,...
13)
but they came together to bury their father, & their descendants buried them together.

Who might be an adversary yesterday, may not be tomorrow and certainly not forever.
14)
The world is changing. Relationships, alliances, interests will change. Never assume what is today will be forever."

As I write, I do not know who, for sure, will be the President of the USA come January 20.
1)
But, I do see that the world outside is weighing its options in case Joe Biden is President, based on what he and his party have claimed they will do.

So, let’s call it “THE BIDEN EFFECT”
2)
Israel, Cyprus, & Greece agreed on extensive military coordination & cooperation today, November 12th. I have no doubt one element in this agreement was concern as to whether Biden will go back to Obama policies & lean toward Erdoğan’s Turkey & against Egypt’s Al-Sisi regime.

But there are limits.

I HATE THE GOVERNMENT OF CHINA.
1)
Not the people of China that are subjected to this Gov't. Just the Gov't.

THE WORLD IS STRUGGLING WITH A DISEASE, COVID-19 THAT THEY INTENTIONALLY SHIPPED TO THE REST OF THE WORLD PACKAGED WITH MISINFORMATION OR A REFUSAL TO INFORM, THOUGH THEY WERE OBLIGATED TO INFORM.
2)
THIS WEEK THEY DESTROYED THE LAST VESTIGES OF FREEDOM & DEMOCRACY IN HONG KING, THOUGH THEY GUARANTEED THEY WOULD NOT.

AND IN THE PAST MONTH THEY HAVE ESCALATED THEIR THREATS TO TAIWAN.

It is not the conforming masses that need protection for their opinions.

It is the dissenting minority that does.
1)
I am afraid that the USA is losing that freedom which means so much more to the Democratic Republic than does any vote.
2)
Today in the USA, one can lose a job, one can be threatened, one can be physically attacked and injured, for daring to sall "ALL LIVES MATTER". or that "it is OK to call men "men"
and women "women" rather than "it".

1)
So, what are they saying. Move to Georgia, register, and vote -- take off of work, buy a house or rent an apartment for only a month? Nice if one is rich, I guess.

But it sound to me like fraud.
2)
What we have just seen is the very rixh pouring money into states where they do not live to cheat the citizens of these states.

IT IS A FELONY TO VOTE IN GEORGIA IF ONE GOES THERE JUST TO VOTE.

A FELONY PUNISHABLE BY FINES AND PRISON TIME.

1)
Yes, numbers of cases of Covid-19 are up worldwide again. Yes, numbers of hospitalizations in many places are up as well.

But look closer and you’ll see that the numbers of long term hospitalizations and deaths are not up. In fact both are down.
2)
Numbers are up because testing is up. Before testing was available in such numbers, people who felt like they had a cough or symptoms of a cold or regular flu did not go to the doctor. They stayed home for the few days of feeling ill, and then went on with life.

Roger Froikin @rlefraim wrote, "BIDEN CONSULTANTS SUGGESTING A MONTH LONG SHUTDOWN OF THE ENTIRE USA.

I just have three comments:
1)
1. This would be disastrous to the US economy, & it would have almost zero benefits to the health of Americans. It is a solution of idiots who react to, & use fear, to make policy, rather than looking at the facts, the science, that tells us such drastic action will not help.
2)
2. The President of the USA does not have the authority under the Constitution of the USA to issue any such order or to make any such demands.
