As I see that Andy Ngo is still trending I thought I would share my brief, though enlightening, encounter with the man.
People who have followed this account will be well aware that I was doxxed in early January 2020. 1/24
After I was doxxed, I posted a final entry to the blog before turning it fully over to @VestsCanada. 2/24
While I received an outpouring of support and thanks from people who had followed the blog for years, there were a small number of individuals who attacked me.
Among those was Andy Ngo. 3/24
First as @nolifeneet noted at the time I did not write the article in question (though I wish I had and I stand behind it all). But second and most importantly he is grossly mischaracterizing what was written. 4/24
The article in question can be found at anti-racistcanada.blogspot.com/2020/01/ubc-ca…. I'm guessing this is the offending portion of it that so concerned Mr. Ngo, however it doesn't take long to see that he is very much taking things out of context. 5/24
He double-downed in a Tweet that amassed 2000 likes and nearly 1000 retweets in which he referred to me as an "extremist antifa doxxer" who "released the address and photo of opponents' home" and defended the use of violence (see the previous tweet in the thread). 6/24
It shouldn't be a surprise to learn that none of this is true. Using screenshots of publicly posted comments does not constitute doxxing. I was also scrupulous in not providing details about where people lived. I never posted an address or a phone number or photo of a home. 7/24
In short, and much like his current faux British accent, Ngo lied. 8/24
At the time I was sort of distracted, but when things calmed down I began to wonder why Ngo, who was much more prominent than I was, would deign to comment on lil'ol me. 9/24
I've come to realize though that even a minor player such as myself can be used when trying to establish a grand narrative through taking comments out of context and outright lying to a credulous fan base already inclined to believe that narrative. 10/24
Ngo has a long history of this sort of grift. In 2017 he was fired from Portland State University's student newspaper, The Vanguard for purposely taking a comment out of context to put someone in a negative light. 11/24
He has also continued to write stories that attack the political left as violent and the right as blameless victims often using carefully edited videos to make the case. Unsurprisingly these video clips are often taken wildly out of context as well. 14/24
In some small way this happened to me as a number of the threats I received after being doxxed referenced Ngo's histrionic tweet about me as a justification for harassing me.
Others face the same backlash when they speak out against Ngo. 22/24
Sadly, it doesn't matter how many times Ngo is caught doing this. His followers, living in an echo chamber, are already inclined to believe what he writes even when presented with irrefutable evidence that he isn't being truthful. 23/24
Those who expose him are the "fake news."
And he will continue as more people are hurt because that is a feature and bot a bug in his "journalism." 24/24
It has been 11 days since Donald Trump lost the presidential election and his supporters, including his Canadian admirers, are continuing to take the news poorly. 1/23
As the reality of his loss has become apparent, the most extreme continue to retreat into a fantasy world where their echo chamber is their truth. 2/23
If it is at all possible, the claims being made by those who have not, and likely will never, accept Trump's resounding defeat have become even more outlandish. 3/23
I apologize for the delay but we have our winner in the "Most Cringeworthy Canadian Hateriot Gang Name". 1/16
In fourth place, the club named after a slow-moving extinct mammal known for getting stuck in tar pits, the Calgary-based The Mammoths. 2/16
The Mammoths were founded by Jeremy Clarke. Previously he was the Alberta Northern Guard provincial leader before being pushed out. Kyle Puchalski became provincial leader after. The relationship between the Mammoths and Northern Guard is acrimonious to say the least. 3/16
