BREAKING: Metro now proposing far less severe budget cuts than before. #wmata proposes continuing to keep rail stations open until 11 PM each day; previous proposal had been 9 PM.
Metro also no longer proposing bringing back “turnbacks“ on Red/Yellow lines.
Board votes Thursday.
On the bad side for riders, Metro’s board had voted to reduce weekend rail fares to a flat two dollar fee, plus increase the bus/rail transfer discount, plus reduce seven day bus pass costs - now #wmata is proposing scrapping those discounts to save money.
For bus riders #wmata plans to make customers board at the front and pay again starting in January.
Metro is proposing to largely keep bus service at the reduced levels it is currently at.
Also under Metro‘s latest proposal, you would have to wait longer for a train at peak hours. On every line but the Red Line, trains would arrive 12 minutes apart all day whether peak or off-peak.
On the Red Line it would be six minutes. #wmata
On both Saturdays and Sundays Metrorail trains would arrive every 15 minutes except on the Red Line, where they would arrive every 12 minutes. #wmata
Also, the latest budget proposal still has the Silver Line Phase 2 to Dulles and Ashburn opening on July 1 of next year. However it remains unclear if it will be ready to open by then. #wmata
