I suppose the issue is with anti-masking and anti-vaxxing is that because it is a complicated reason as to why they work, the average anti-person knows it is made up, as their lives are constructed of simple cause and effect scenarios?
All they need to see is someone stumble over *why* something works and they jump upon it, citing that as proof that it is all a conspiracy, maybe?
Like, all they need is that kernel of doubt to prove that they are in the right and their black and white construct of the world remains intact
I know quite a few anti-vaxx/mask people and they are, generally, not very clever.
Definitely the kind of people that, at primary school, were not allowed to play with crayons unsupervised, due to their predilection for munching on them
But due to the media's massive lean toward Trumpism, where anything vaguely scientific is viewed with distain and mistrust, it is starting to gain more traction
I know I'm not saying anything new here, nor breaking new ground, but it still amazes me that this sort of shite has caught on
But then you look at Facebook and you see the depths of stupidity there and you realise that we are fucked. It turns out that giving credence to people with harmful views is harmful
And all you need to start a cult is professional looking PowerPoint slides and an argument that appeals to the paranoia of of the time
Simplify a conspiracy theory enough, but with just a hint of science-iness and you are onto a winner. Throw in some scaremongering too and it is almost unbeatable.
Take anything new, add in some vaguely scientific babble, throw in how it damages children. Or white people. Or those in the higher tax bracket.
Boom.
You have a conspiracy theory.
For example, did you know that the engine that runs the new PS5 can, if used in an unventilated room for too long, will, due to the oxidants produced by the silicon processor, cause premature hair loss AND can lower sperm count?
Did you know that Tim Tok use pre-pubescent girls can become addicted to the dopamine release caused from gratification of the attention that they garner which can, if left unchecked, cause cancer of the hippocampus.
Etc etc
One of them has just shared a YouTube clip from Brendan O'Neil though, telling me that lockdown wasn't needed, so that's nice.
Brendan Fucking O'Neil.
Jesus christ.
