Arizona, and our nation, remain in a public health emergency. It’s been a long haul — but we need to redouble our efforts. Today, we’re announcing additional efforts to protect Arizonans and fight #COVID19 ⬇️ 1/
Our health care heroes deserve all the support we can give them. With cases spiking around the country, we’re dedicating an additional $25 million to support hospital staff: 2/
The holidays are a time to connect with those we care about most, but they can also present real risks of spreading #COVID19. @AZDHS has released new guidance to help all Arizonans celebrate safely this year.
Just met with directors for our Governor’s Council Meeting to discuss how state agencies are innovating during the pandemic. Across the state, agencies have adapted to continue serving Arizonans and save taxpayer dollars while prioritizing health and safety. (THREAD)
.@ArizonaDCS has prioritized maintaining vital in-person visits to carry out Arizona’s commitment to strengthen families and achieve permanency for kids in need. Since March, these efforts have led to more than 3,000 kids being reunified & more than 1,700 adoptions taking place.
More than 730 @AZNationalGuard members are currently deployed across the state responding to the pandemic, assisting public health efforts, protecting our communities and serving Arizonans.
I hear @JoeBiden is out there attacking the “Republican governor of Arizona.” I guess he *does* see “red and blue” states after all. But if you’re going after AZ, Joe, get your facts straight… 1/
Early in the pandemic, I prohibited cities from implementing onerous shutdowns on local businesses and citizens as some local politicians threatened to bring our entire economy to a complete halt. 2/
It’s paid off. Arizona’s economy is recovering faster and stronger than states that took the extreme approach. Unemployment is down, and jobs are growing. 3/
Today, I’m announcing additional actions to contain the spread of #COVID19 in Arizona. 1/
Effective at 8:00 p.m. tonight, we are instituting a month-long pause on the operations of bars, gyms, movie theaters, waterparks and tubing rentals. This will help relieve stress on our health care system and give time for new transmissions to slow. 2/
Effective today, organized events of more than 50 people are prohibited. Arizonans should celebrate the 4th of July responsibly this weekend, including by staying home, avoiding larger gatherings, and wearing a mask if you do go out. 3/
We must contain the spread of #COVID19 in Arizona. The current increase in cases and hospitalizations is unacceptable. All our efforts must be focused on this, and we are asking all Arizonans to help. 1/
So this weekend, remember: You are safer at home. If you do go out, wear a mask. We can’t stress this enough. COVID19 is widespread in Arizona, and you need to protect yourself and others. 2/
To our business community: public health guidance MUST BE FOLLOWED. Local authorities have been empowered to enforce these guidelines set forth through Executive Order and by public health. This has the power of law. 3/
I want to commend our law enforcement officers on their work last night, especially @Arizona_DPS, @PhoenixPolice & all the supporting agencies involved in protecting downtown & major targets, like our freeways. The @AZNationalGuard also played a critical role in this response. 1/
@Arizona_DPS@PhoenixPolice@AZNationalGuard One thing is clear: The more aggressive approach downtown was needed, and it worked. Now, more needs to be done, in more places around the state, to protect law and order and public safety. 2/
@Arizona_DPS@PhoenixPolice@AZNationalGuard The looting and violence we saw last night, especially in Scottsdale, simply cannot be tolerated. And it won't be. Destruction of property does not qualify as freedom of expression. 3/
