Gov:
Our numbers are too high and we cannot ignore them.
But other states are worse. They should be the canary in the coal mine for us.
That's why we limited capacity for social & family gatherings to 10.
Gov:
We're rolling out a new county alert system showing hot spots. But our entire state is experiencing widespread transmission.
Other states are seeing surges.
Ours are not surging. But it could happen quickly.
Cohen:
I am concerned about where we are. We have 3,000+ cases in one day.
Hospitals in the Triad area particularly are feeling the strain.
Other states are worse.
They are tightening restrictions.
Cohen:
Look at our dashboard for a color-coded map of spread.
10 are red with critical spread
43 are orange with substantial spread
47 are yellow with significant spread
Cohen:
If you're in the red counties, here are way to slow the spread:
- Limiting social activities with other households & reduce public interactions to essential activities.
- Biz should cancel non-essential travel
- Cancel meetings with >10 people
If we keep going in the wrong direction, though, we could impose more restrictions.
We need people to treat this like the deadly threat it is.
But people are getting lax.
Can't let weariness win!
Reporter Q:
Are you going to break out this data at the county level - for cities?
Gov:
It's a starting point for us. It's county-level.
We want to create a synergy of enforcing requirements and establish things unique to counties. More resources targeted to counties.
Gov:
We haven't seen surge or spike like other states.
If we see numbers rise then we will look at either statewide or local requirements as part of an executive order or DHHS action to force more changes.
Gov:
Health care workers first & residents in long term care. You can see our plan online.
Very worried about hospitals in rural areas - and spread in rural areas now.
Cohen:
We know hospitals have more patients this time of year. We work with hospitals. Transparency. Collaboration. Move patients around to relieve pressure.
We're well-positioned to be aware and to respond.
We are already seeing some hospitals reach strain.
Gov:
This new system will raise the concern level.
Cohen:
Kudos to local health care departments & workers. Kudos to counties that are getting more restrictive & increasing enforcement.
We don't want to go backwards.
Gov:
We've learned a lot about the virus since March.
Our efforts like masks & distancing will work if people comply.
We're trying to re-energize people. We know it's inconvenient. But we will do what we need to do.
Cohen:
There is widespread transmission across the state.
We have to focus on mask wearing.
Keep your Thanksgiving small, outside, wear mask all the time. Get tested before.
Reporter Q:
You were hoping to see less politicizing around COVID. Is that happening?
Gov:
I was on WH Coronavirus task force call with VP Pence yesterday. There was excitement about the 2 vaccines.
I believe we can work on coming together now.
Science & data are clear.
Reporter Q:
Why not make this a requirement/mandate?
Gov:
There's a lot of weariness so people are getting lax. A renewed effort to focus on enforcement of current rules, this will work better to curb the numbers than adding another layer.
Reporter Q:
Where are the hotspots in the counties?
Cohen:
Every county is different.
Good opportunity to come together to understand their numbers & work with health officials.
Spread is in informal social gatherings & in religious settings.
When the deal was announced, I said the GOP members should resign for voting for it - either for incompetence, an unwillingness to fight, or for their support of that deal. You make a mistake like that, and no - you shouldn’t get to stay on the board to make more. 2/ #NCpol
So, then the 2 board members resigned & issued statements. One said he felt misled. The other said he misunderstood the deal.
Are they lying?
Or maybe it’s as I said - they could’ve been misled AND have been told to resign. 3/ #NCpol
The "AG proposes a cure procedure that is more voter friendly. Cure would confirm that voter is who they say they are when they are filling out the absentee ballot."
So, it appears it was the AG who recommended the affidavit as a "cure."
"There are two hearings this week before Judge Bryan Collins whom litigation counsel advised was likely sympathetic to the Plaintiff’s viewpoint on witnesses."
Seems to confirm what Raymond & Black said about the AG's office advising that BoE would likely lose the case.
"What is being proposed is the voter will attest that no one nefariously completed the ballot envelope. Upon receipt of a ballot with no witness, the affidavit would be sufficient."
David Black: "It was not my understanding that the cure would simply mean an affidavit"
It's yet another example of how arbitrary the Governor's #SHEOs have been. When he wants to, he drops the hammer (bars, gyms) - assuming near-limitless power. But when he doesn't (nursing homes, meat processors, colleges) he pretends his power is limited. #NCpol
The Secretary of Public Safety is impressive how he can speak for such long periods of time without saying a single thing.
So weird!
A local #Asheville leftist moonbat quote-tweeted me - twice - and blocked me.
Almost as if she didn't want me to see the utter stupidity of their engagement.
Like this:
Of course, it's widely understood that #BluePrintNC outfits employ people.
Simply reporting information doesn't require an assumption of wrong-doing. Although it is interesting that this immediately came to her mind.
It's almost as if she assumes the worst motives in others.

She apparently deleted that tweet about the PPP $.
Maybe she's fine-tuning her stupidity. We'll see.
But, first - she's perusing my timeline. Where she quote-tweeted this: 3/
#NCGov: We asked schools to develop 3 plans a few weeks ago. Districts are still working on those. We want schools open for in-person instruction in August.
No statewide directive today.
"But we will soon."
#NCGov: We're delivering PPE to schools. Thanks to everyone in the schools. My mom was a teacher.
A few schools are scheduled to start in July. They should do remote learning until we tell them what the plan is.
We need everyone to do The Three Ws!
Reminder: States were advised to get tests done in all nursing homes in early May.
So, it seems NC is about 2 months late on this. #NCpol#NCGA#COVID19NC#NCGov
