Tonight's LTC round-up starts with travel back in time to April 2020, with this happy article written on Kennedy Lodge in Toronto. It talks about how the home will keep residents safe, residents' favourite activities, food. Families. Check it out.
Here is Kennedy Lodge today. 31 residents lost to COVID-19, 128 infected. You see the pattern: Chain-owned, anonymous PSW, understaffing, inadequate PPE.
No names mentioned of course, just faceless numbers.
If we truly decry the Great Barrington Declaration, we must acknowledge the unethical nature of 🇨🇦's unscientific and ageist policies. #COVIDzero is the only moral approach for a society that values the lives of its disabled, elderly + less privileged.
@MoriartyLab tells us in her national update that LTC DEATHS rising faster in ON, AB, MB than Canada-wide avg. CASES rising 4X faster in MB and 2X in QC.
This cannot continue. If not #COVIDzero, then what? How to get to April, 5 months away?
Here is tonight's thought. Let's start by fighting to highlight the names and stories of the people lost to COVID. Let's keep the human toll in the spotlight. It will really help clarify things + move political needle.
This 👇🏾from April 2020. Here's to a better April 2021.

Today's LTC round-up: 101 cases in an LTC home in Abbottsford BC (ONE HUNDRED AND ONE), inc half the residents. 2 deaths. Theme of understaffing + burnout: 16-hour shifts on alternating days, 11-12 nonstop days, dirty face masks.
As with ON, we see in BC an insufficient reckoning of daily deaths.
One may be excused for thinking PH officials lack the courage to face the toll of their poor policies.
A #COVID19 infected individual releases infectious particles by talking, coughing, sneezing, laughing, etc., “Aerosol transmission” acknowledges airborne spread of the virus. It has different PH implications than droplet transmission.
Important: The virus is NOT naked in the air. It is encased in droplets or smaller aerosols (10-1000X bigger than virus). Aerosol size impacts efficacy of masks + air purifiers, *and* how deeply particles penetrate the respiratory tract.
