LGB Alliance believes the motion that has been tabled at Holyrood to mark Transgender Day of Remembrance tomorrow is full of misrepresentations. @TwisterFilm has pointed out some of the errors and exaggerations in the motion.
#FactsMatter /1of12
URGENT. Please email your MSP today. The Scottish Parliament will be asked tomorrow to mark Transgender Day of Remembrance. But the motion shouldn't be passed because it's full of wild exaggerations and downright mistakes. You can read it here👇 bb.parliament.scot/Motions/Detail…/2of12
While it is true that 350 trans people have been killed worldwide in the last year not one of those was murdered in Scotland. In the UK there are currently more convicted killers who identify as trans than there have been trans people killed ....in the last decade./3of12
Many of the deaths to which the motion refers occurred in Brazil, 157 out of 350. 62% involved prostitution. This motion obscures the lived reality of many transwomen's lives and the dangers they are placed in by prostitution. /4of12👇 transrespect.org/en/tmm-update-…
Brazil's homicide rate is one of the highest in the world, and deep racial inequality means it impacts people of colour unduly. Suggesting the situation in Scotland is comparable to a country suffering under an extreme Religious Right government is insulting to Brazilians./5of12
The Motion states that 48% of trans people under 26 have attempted suicide. The source is an old study by the small LGBT charity PACE which referred to the suicide history of just 27 self-selected transgender people; in the context a statistically almost useless number./6of12
Dr Nuno Nodin, the researcher who conducted the survey expressed regret his findings had been misinterpreted. Such misuse of evidence he said "happens often when research is used by non-scientists in the context of their own agenda."/7of12
You can find out more about just how misleading the use of these sorts of suicide statistics is at the Fairplay For Women site. /8of12👇 fairplayforwomen.com/suicide/
The Motion refers to increases in hate crimes against trans people when in fact the recorded figures for trans people have declined in Scotland since 2017; and remain small. This motion contributes to unnecessary pessimism and a sense of panic. 👇copfs.gov.uk/media-site/med… /9of12
The Motion is regrettable because, if it passes, it would enter falsehoods and statistical mistakes into the public record while being exploited by lobby groups to perpetuate a victim narrative that trans people are particularly at risk of murder, suicide and hate crimes./10of12
Might not the Motion cause resentment by suggesting our MSPs are obsessed with just one minority? Couldn’t they find time to mark the tragic rise in deaths of elderly people attributable to the pandemic or the increase in domestic violence against women during lockdown?/11of12
As gay peeps we know from experience how important it is for minorities to build bridges and balance the need to defend OUR rights with the need to acknowledge the claims of others. Society is a shared project. It's not a one way street. It can't always be ONLY about us./12of12

We look on with grave concern at the attempts to shut down liberal values such a free expression. It's a concern to us that the reputation of an important news outlet such as The Guardian has been diminished.

That it has become controversial to defend our rights in law that are predicated on the reality of biological sex only strengthens our resolve.

We believe that current ideas of gender identity are pseudoscientific and present a risk to people who are same-sex attracted.

2
We believe that there is a need to have a legitimate, respectful, and open discussion about our concerns.

This means that we all have to listen to each other and to expose ourselves to ideas and views that we don't agree with, and that may even make us feel uncomfortable.

Ten years after the passing of the UK Equality Act, it’s time to take stock. Key issues include emphasising the protected characteristics of sex and sexual orientation and the rules on sex-protected spaces. There’s a pressing need for clear guidance./1of4
In particular we need to examine how the Equality Act works in today’s world, in which the broad category of “gender reassignment” instead of the small group of 5,000 people in the UK (in 2004) is now being applied to 100 times as many people: half a million./2of4
This “trans umbrella” covers at least 17 different kinds of people (according to Stonewall), who have little if anything in common. @MForstater reviews what’s happened over the years. We need #ClarityOnSexAndGender./3of4

We oppose the “affirmative” approach to gender dysphoria. Our detractors suggest, offensively and quite ludicrously, that this reflects an uncaring attitude to those concerned. This important article suggests the opposite./1of6 quillette.com/2020/11/01/jac…
“Advocates of ‘affirmative care’ naturally downplay the risks arising from inappropriate transitions. (Turban himself has described them as largely ‘cosmetic.’ Yet we are seeing increasing numbers of patients who feel deeply traumatized by inappropriate transitions.”/2of6
“They suffer from irreversible physical changes, including alterations to their genitals and sexual function, sterility, painful vaginal atrophy, chest/breast alteration and scarring, deepening of the voice”,/3of6

Is Stonewall's Diversity Champions scheme fit for purpose? This article highlights what has gone so badly, and sadly, wrong. The issues raised are at the heart of the case being brought by @BluskyeAllison against @stonewalluk. We support Allison in her fight for justice. /1
Diversity Champions scheme was designed to help organisations become better workplaces for all. Its original purpose has completely changed. Tragically, it is now used to promote @stonewalluk's incorrect interpretation of the Equality Act. /2
In replacing sex with "gender" Stonewall seeks to remove sex protected spaces. And in promoting their narrow world view revolving around "gender identity", they undermine LGB rights & call any disagreement with their strict orthodoxy "transphobic". /3

What is advertised as “diversity” & “inclusiveness” is a set of beliefs based on gender identity theory. The resulting policies undermine the rights of LGB people, women & girls and flout the Equality Act. Why are govt agencies paying into this programme? telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/10/3…
“Roughly 250 Government departments and public bodies, including police forces, local councils and NHS trusts, pay thousands each year to be members of the programme run by Stonewall.”
“The amount that each organisation pays is shrouded in secrecy, but the base rate is £2,500 and can vary depending on the size of the organisation, suggesting that the taxpayer is footing a bill of at least £600,000.”

Open letter from LGB Alliance to Tim Davie, Director General, BBC
30 Oct 2020 /1of27
Dear Tim Davie,
The BBC is one of the great British institutions, treasured by the public and revered across the world. It is because the BBC remains so important that every word you utter is dissected forensically. /2of27
In addition, the fact that you depend on the licence fee makes it even more important that you represent the population in a balanced and well-informed way. /3of27
