In his encounter with Bela Lugosi, Ed obtains a partnership a friendship with his idol and muse. Doing together many movies and living wonderful moments together.
More than a film about Ed Wood, the 🎞 is a love letter to Bela Lugosi. An artist abandoned by Hollywood, with massive drug issues, and suicidal thoughts. But with a kindness more genuine than other celebs who mistreated him.
In its casting, Ed Wood presents Juliet Landau, who would work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer after Joss Whedon saw her on Ed Wood. And there is Lisa Marie. Who would accompany Tim’s movies for many years. From Ed Wood to Planet of the Apes.
In Ed Wood, Tim Burton treats superbly the subject of Crossdressing in Ed Wood’s life. And as Ed Wood’s widow said when she saw Johnny Depp on set, she 😊 and said to him “Just like Eddie.” And let’s say it, Johnny Depp is quite great looking in women clothes.
Thanks to his Bela Lugosi performance, Martin Landau got an Oscar alongside Rick Baker, Ve Neil, and Yolanda Toussieng whose make up work of Bela was impeccable. Kudos also to Howard Shore’s music and Stefan Czapsky’s cinematography. Great choice to film in Black and white.
Through its black and white cinematography, the film obtains an artistic quality that follows the magic of 1950s B-movies. Sad how not too many people came to see it cinema. Good thing that Blu-Rays and DVDs helped it obtain the success it deserves.
Love letter to cinema, to Ed Wood, to Bela Lugosi, and to all people who struggle while making movies, Ed Wood presents a friendship between Ed and Bela as wonderful as the one between Vincent Price and Tim Burton.
