#OTD in 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Like all Navy veterans, #JFK was extremely proud of his service. He famously commanded PT 109 during WWII and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his heroics in the rescue of the crew. #JFKassassination
After being honorably discharged, JFK worked as a journalist for Hearst Newspapers and traveled with Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal to Germany to cover the Potsdam Conference. JFK is in the back of this photo (wearing sunglasses).
While in Berlin, Forrestal and JFK took the opportunity to tour Hitler's Reich Chancellery. Like JFK's assassination, Forrestal death from a fall at the Bethesda Naval Hospital in 1949 would lead to conspiracy theories about a cover-up.
