A THREAD on the greatness of Bhasma

सितेनभस्मनाकुर्य्यात्त्रिसन्ध्यंयस्त्रिपुण्ड्रकम् ।
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तः शिवेनसहमोदते ॥

He who observes Tripundra with white ashes during the 3 Sandhyas everyday becomes free from all sins & rejoices with Shiva ~ Vishvesvarasamhita (1)
The Vishvesvarasamhita of the Shiva Purana explains in detail the great benefits to be had by applying Bhasma & Tripundra. It also explains in great detail the significance of the Tripundra; why, how & where to apply it. (2)
Sage Suta in the below Shloka says the Bhasma are of two types. One is known as Mahabhasma (great ashes) & the other is called the Svalpa (the little) . The Maha Bhasma is classified into many different types. (3)
तद्भस्मत्रिविधंप्रोक्तंश्रोतंस्मार्तंचलौकिकम् ।
भस्मैव स्वल्पसंज्ञंहिबहुधापरिकीर्तितम् ॥

Maha Bhasma is of 3 types. 1st one is obtained from Shrauta rites, the 2nd through Smartha rites & the 3rd is Laukika, which is prepared from ordinary fire. (4)
It is mandated for the dwijas to chant mantras while applying the Bhasma. The others can simply apply without any mantra. (5)
People belonging to all the Varnas and Ashramas can put on the Tripundra on the forehead or dust their bodies with the mantras mentioned in the Jabala Upanishad or if no mantra is used they shall do the same with reverence. (6)
The one who makes the Tripundra on the forehead with white ashes shall attain, on death, the primordial worlds. (7)
Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, Shudras, people of mixed castes, women, widows, girls, heretics, a brahmacarin, a householder, a forest dweller, an ascetic, performer of sacred rites who have Tripundra marks are undoubtedly liberated souls. (8)
The one who wears the Tripundra while performing Shraddha, Yajna, Japa, Homa, Vaishvadeva and the worship of the deities is a purified soul and he conquers even death. (9)
The Tripundra on the forehead extends from the middle of the eyebrows to the tips of the brows on either side.

With the middle & the ring fingers a line drawn in the opposite direction is called Tripundra.

For each of the 3 lines there are 9 deities everywhere in the body (10)
The nine deities of the first line of the Tripundra are:

The syllable “A”(of AUM), Garhapatya (sacrificial fire), Earth, Dharma, Rajas attribute, Rigveda, Kriyashkti (the power to do), Pratahsavana (morning rituals) and Mahadeva. (11)
The nine deities of the second line are:

The nine deities of the third line are:

The syllable “M” (of AUM), Aahavaniya (sacrificial fire), the supreme soul, Tamas attribute, Swarga, Jnana Shakti, Samaveda, the third Savana (evening rituals) and Shiva. (13)
The following Shlokas mention the different parts of the human body connected with the deities mentioned in the above Shlokas. It also mentions that the Tripundra can be applied at 32 places, 16 places, 8 places or 5 places on the body. (14)

Or the devotee shall apply the Tripundra in 5 parts of the body :

(22)
The devotee shall have Tripundra in the sides saying Ishabhyam Namah (obeisance to Shiva and the goddess) and in the forearms by saying Bijabhyam Namah (23)
The devotee shall apply the ashes beneath by saying Namah Pitrbhyam (obeisance to the ancestors) and above by saying Namah Umeshabhyam (obeisance to Uma and Isha), on the back and the back of the head by saying Namah Bhimaya (obeisance to Bhima) (24)
This concludes the thread. As we can see there are tremendous benefits to be had by applying the Tripundra. Same goes for the Vaishnava tilaka; Urdhva Pundra (praised in the Vasudevopanishad).Whatever be ones sampradaya, one must try to adhere to it to the best of their abilities

To understand the psyche of those launching an all out attack against Ayurveda, read this thread.

At the end of the day what the patient cares for is relief from his suffering. He doesn't care the route taken to achieve this.

It is moronic to pit one system against another.
Am not a medical researcher, so don't expect clinical research data points from me. I & many others like me can only share our own experiences with the 2 system of medicines. More often than not, where allopathic treatment has failed, Ayurveda has worked.
There were occasions where Ayurveda did not work too. Look at the end of the day it is all about providing solutions to the patient without reducing him to a pauper. Allopathy does that.

Degenerates who keep blabbering about "modernizing" ancient Hindu rituals just so that their kids will take a liking to it. How screwed are these people in the head? Isn't there enough modernity around you already? Its your parenting style that needs changing, NOT rituals.
These people talk in a manner as if they are doing everyone some great favor by performing rituals. No you aren't. A ritual is performed for many reasons. Entertainment isn't one of them. Seek it elsewhere. These ppl won't even spare the last ancient connect we have, our rituals.
Your father didn't change the rituals for your acceptance, neither did your grandfather for your father, nor did your great grandfather, nor did the 100's of generations before him all the way up to the very 1st Rishi you descended from. Who are you to tinker with rituals?

Worst part is this is not the 1st murthi to either be damaged or go missing in this temple. In the 3rd pic you can see a murthi of Bhairava in place of what originally was a big murthi of Keshava. Notice base of the Peetha, depicts Garuda vahana. Archeologist Dhaky confirms this
In so many ancient temples one will come across such anomalies regularly. Original murthis either smuggled or broken, replaced with another piece.

Placing Bhairava in place of Keshava. Vaastu shastra be damned. No one cares for such things anymore. It can have malefic effects.
The original Keshava murthi at Dodda Gaddavalli would have been something like this. Countless Hoysala era murthis like this lay smuggled all over the world.

What is shameful is that the government which spends crores of rupees on the upkeep of tomb of dead barbarians fails to provide even basic security to ancient & timeless temples.

This is what happens when GOI converts an active place of worship into ASI tourist spot. Shameful.
Now they are bullshitting that the murthi slipped off & broke on its own. Do these people even know how heavy soapstones are?! Chloritic schists have the quality of becoming harder with time. Each & every damage inflicted on Hoyasla era temples is deliberate.
Even if the culprits are caught, they'll at most be let off with a slap on the wrist. Like what happened in the Hampi case recently. The secular state at its very core is iconoclastic in nature. If anything it'll reward such behavior. Hindus can only helplessly watch on.

A Thread on the description of Bharatavarsha & its sacred mountain ranges, river systems & its people in the Brahma Purana

Rishi Lomaharshana begins the description of Bharatavarsha with this verse:

उत्तरेण समुद्रस्य हिमाद्रेश्चैव दक्षिणे।
वर्ष तद्धारत नाम भारती यत्र सतति ॥ (1)
To the north of ocean and to the South of Himalayas is the sub-continent Bharata. The subjects are called Bharatis.

नवयोउ नसाहस्रो विस्तारश्च द्विजोत्तमा । कर्मभूमिरिय स्वर्गमपवाञ्च इच्छताम् ॥

He describes Bharat as the land of of karma where swarga can be attained. (2)
महेंद्रो मलय सह्यः शुक्तिमानक्षपर्वत ।
विध्यश्च पारियात्रश्च सप्तात्र कुलपर्वता ॥

Then he describes the 7 Kulaparvatas i.e chief mountain ranges of a Bharat, namely : Mahendra, Malaya, Sahya, Suktiman, Rksa, Vindhya and Pariyatra. (3)
