this is an elegant way to talk about the feedback problem that alan watts loved to riff about

how do you trust yourself if you don't trust yourself?

how do you fix a broken system when the "fixing tool" is itself broken? etc
yeah this rhymes with what worked for me, doing tonnes of introspective journaling. few things are absolutely 0 or 100, but if you ramble a lot, really fast, you'll notice that some things feel relatively more or less correct than others

here's a game you can try:

1. make a list of your feelings as quickly as you can. write down wrong feelings even

2. sort them in order of "most to least correct". this order can be wrong too. do it fast

3. make 100 of these lists and compare them to each other
over time, this process can help you progressively gets better and better at approximating the "truth" of your inner state. it looks and feels quite like this:
vividness from fervor and enthusiasm. naturalness and spontaneity coming from volumes of practice. the thing IME is to really go as fast as you can and not let your internal editor raise questions prematurely

the issue for a lot of people is a sort of catastrophic fatalism, this idea that everything has to be correct or it's all terrible. you can get marginally better a little bit every day.

if I were the therapist in the first QT I'd probably go with "tell me more about that"
if you become really prolific, you eventually cross thresholds where you fail to recognize yourself, and your past work, and you feel like a different person. then you can examine "your" issues as you would examine someone else's.

thinking about my consumer behaviors
as a general rule I don't like to be sold things; earlier today a couple of girls came to my door to try and sell me some coupons for a new food delivery place. I'm like nah, I don't buy such things on the spot. they didn't leave me a pamphlet or anything tho. I like to read
I generally hate to try new apps of any kind. if you want me to try your app you have to go through an extremely lengthy process to persuade me. for context, conaw tried to sell me on roam for about a year at least and I ignored him the whole time until vgr started using it

I've kinda faced a less brazen version of this, where

1. some dudes think I'm a dingy basement rat who has to beg for crumbs of attention

2. others think I'm too conventionally attractive (and must always have been) to have any useful perspective on social dynamics
I think the thing that explains all of this is that status regulators don't really care about the reality of how things work.

here's the fun part: if you do anything that violates the regulations, they will try to put you down with insults ***derived from the social order***
which is to say, they don't actually have a system for processing "the violator is unaffected by us calling them names that we would find deeply shameful and upsetting". It's very entertaining to watch them get confused by this

me: people with ADHD aren’t *literally* distracted by random squirrels, that’s just a simplistic stereotype. A caricature, really-

“why does Yamaha makes both musical instruments and motorcycles” has been a vague curiosity on my mind for 15+ years and for some reason I’ve never googled it
war basically explains the Yamaha thing. Which afaik also explains the electronics boom (which Sony rode to glory)
