A few big picture points to keep in mind as we listen to Rishi Sunak's #SpendingReview - 1. Successive Conservative governments have spent a decade levelling down the UK. Today's spending plans are an admission that they have taken us down the wrong road and caused damage #SR20
2. Any plans to level up the UK will fail without a proper strategy for poverty eradication, tackling low pay & job insecurity & redistribution of power. More on this in @CLASSthinktank recent publication here classonline.org.uk/docs/Report_Le…
3. Any comparison between private & public sector pay is like comparing apples & oranges. Public sector pay freezes hurt the recovery under Osborne. Feels like groundhog day for those of us trying to rebut these arguments a decade ago, frustrating that gov still doesn't get it
Says so much that Rishi Sunak can say public borrowing up because of COVID impacts with broad agreement, when Labour correctly said same about financial crisis they were accused of spending too much by the Tories. #SR20#SpendingReview
Here we go, pitting public sector workers against private sector workers. Classic trick, avoids us looking at income & wealth at top. Maybe we should be focusing on taxing the rich and Amazon more?!! #publicsectorpayfreeze#SR20
How do you deliver stronger public services without looking after public sector workers? #SR20#SpendingReview
Just a warning, a lot of the investments including hospitals and nurses have all been announced before #SpendingReview#SR20
New regional bank is something many of us have been arguing for a very long time, but the devil will be in the detail. Remember what happened to the green bank Osborne set up which was privatised and shut?! theguardian.com/environment/20…

I've just written a complaint to @joswinson about the local @LibDems candidate in Chingford and Woodford Green who is engaging in a dog whistle Islamophobic campaign against me. #Islamophobia
This morning I received the below from the Lib Dem Chingford and Woodford Green parliamentary candidate.
I have never heard from Mr Seeff before, and his first correspondence is to try and highlight my Muslim identity and bracket me off with the behaviour of an organisation I have nothing to do with - indeed I’ve never heard of them, why would I have?
My husband and I decided to go to the march yesterday, we hate Brexit and wanted to demonstrate our discontent with gov ahead of next week. We’d planned to join the left block but as we went with a friend with kids & a buggy we couldn’t get across the crowds to the meeting point
We found ourselves surrounded by a crowd of people who could be described as “very middle-class.” I spoke to one guy who was complaining about Labour/ Corbyn and asked him what he wanted Corbyn to do. He said he should argue to revoke article 50 and “be done with it.”
I asked what he thinks Corbyn should say to those who voted to Leave if he is to take this course of action, he said “you’ve been lied to and this is the right thing.” He went on to imply Leavers are all stupid. This is the type of attitude that is extremely unhelpful & just rude
