We teamed up with race equality charity @raceontheagenda (ROTA) to construct a questionnaire that would investigate the experience of racism in Britain today.
More than 500 people from Black, Asian and Minority ethnic backgrounds were surveyed over a four-week period.
They were asked about their experiences of racism in everyday life from education, workplace discrimination, accessing the NHS, accessing finances, public services and their attitudes towards the police and the BLM movement.
Here are some of the findings. 👇
More than 95% of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people in Britain have faced racism or racial prejudice.
49% of respondents think attitudes about race have not progressed since the BLM protests.
🗣️ 64% were verbally abused on the street/in public.
48% were assumed a threat to those around you.
📖 93% of respondents said that the school curriculum was not diverse enough to reflect society, and 90% believe that teachers lacked adequate training to deliver an anti-racist education.
65% faced indirect or direct discrimination or abuse at school.
🏢 85% of respondents experienced one or more forms of racism in the workplace.
77% said people made assumptions about their heritage.
61% were mistaken for another black or Asian person.
🏥 26% of respondents say they have faced discrimination in accessing NHS services, and almost one in five (18%) believe they have been denied pain medication or prescriptions from the NHS based on their race and ethnicity.
A #5NewsTonight special #EverydayRacism will include more discussion and in-depth analysis about the findings and issues raised in the survey.

[THREAD] "2020 is a year which cannot be neatly accommodated in one single ‘word of the year’.”
Oxford Dictionaries has expanded its usual Word of the Year due to an “unprecedented” 2020, with furlough, moonshot and Covid-19 among new terms on the list. 📖
Superspreader and lockdown are other coronavirus-related words on the list.
Black Lives Matter, cancel culture and bushfire have also been added to the 'Words of an Unprecedented Year' report, relating to societal and environmental issues during the past 12 months.
The report says the usage of the word pandemic increased by 57,000% last year, while lexicographers found use of the word “coronavirus” passed one of the most frequently used nouns, time, in April.
