A #thread abt my involvement in the response to these attacks

1/n As the terror attacks were unfolding on land, a frantic search at sea was underway for a "mothership" which may have ferried these terrorists. TOI report 28/11👇

2/n The Navy which intercepted and boarded the MV Alpha, a Vietnamese registered ship, let off the ship after questioning the crew and checking the ship's papers, which were found to be in order. rediff.com/news/2008/nov/…

3/n As the Captain of the Naval Ship carrying out the interception n boarding of suspect ship, I was satisfied we did well in a fast moving situation in which speed of response was of essence. Heading back to Mumbai, we were greeted with a shocking scene

4/n From far out at sea, we could Taj hotel's dome was on fire. The radio normally crackling with marine traffic was eerily quiet. It pained me to see my beloved city in the midst of a terror attack. The wanton killings of innocents by Pakistani terrorists made the country angry.

5/n There were calls for reprisals against Pakistan. It now emerges in media that Air Force was ready with a strike plan but the Govt turned it down. The Jury is still out whether we missed an opportunity to sort out Pakistan or whether we acted sanely. timesnownews.com/india/article/…

6/n A number of reforms in Intelligence, Coastal Security, Police etc were implemented post #2611Attack, but are we any better off than we were before the attacks? Yes the Security set up is better, Our cities have not been targeted in last few years.

7/n.... I know it is easy to be sceptic n a pessimist but the 26/11 attacks finally caused a paradigm shift in the way we looked at terrorism from Pakistan even though it took us 8 years to crystallise the national resolve. In 2016, when the Surgical strike were carried out by..

8/n ..the Indian Army it was a demonstration of that resolve that a nation of 1 billion is not going to mutely watch Pak terrorists kill our citizens. Pakistan has a hard choice today-if it supports terrorism, it should be ready for an effective Indian reprisal. Much has changed.

n/n Finally, I salute our braves who made the supreme sacrifice during 26/11 attacks. Heroes like Capt Unnikrishnan and Constable Tukaram Omble showed why terrorism will never defeat our nation. Jai Hind 🇮🇳
